PLEASANT GAP -- Central Pennsylvania Institute of Science and Technology (CPI) recently announced Dr. Nathan Lavery will serve as its new vice president of post-secondary education.
"Dr. Lavery brings extensive experience in higher education, student services, curriculum development, accreditation, financial aid and instruction to his new leadership role," according to a release from CPI.
The release noted Dr. Lavery has been part of CPI's post-secondary team since 2021 and most recently served as registrar and student services coordinator. Prior to that role, he served as CPI's coordinator of curriculum, accreditation and student services.
"Throughout his time at CPI, Dr. Lavery has worked closely with students, faculty and administration in numerous areas of post-secondary education," the release said.
Among his responsibilities were managing student academic records and enrollment processes, coordinating advising and student services, developing curriculum and class schedules, supporting accreditation and compliance efforts and helping students navigate academic and administrative needs.
Dr. Lavery has taught at the post-secondary level since 2009 and has served as an adjunct instructor at CPI since 2021.
At CPI, he has taught courses including Introduction to Leadership, Pathways to Success with Integrated Technology, Professionalism and Employment Readiness, Small Business Management, Customer Service and Technical Writing. His teaching experience also includes courses in business, economics, history, communications and professional development at several colleges and career schools.
Prior to joining CPI full time, Dr. Lavery held positions in financial aid and student support at Lock Haven University, Greater Altoona Career & Technology Center, YTI Career Institute and the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency.
Dr. Lavery earned his Doctor of Philosophy in Leadership, with a specialization in History, from the University of the Cumberlands in December 2025. His dissertation, "An Examination of the Pastoral Leadership of Christian Religious Leaders at Camp Sumter in Andersonville, Ga., During the American Civil War," combined his interests in leadership and history.
His educational background also includes a Master of Education in Multicultural Education from Eastern University, a Master of Arts in History from Slippery Rock University, a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Clarion University and an Associate in Specialized Business in Computer Applications/Management from DuBois Business College.
In addition, Dr. Lavery holds Pennsylvania teaching certifications in Citizenship 7-12, Social Studies 7-12 and Business, Computer and Information Technology PK-12. He is also a Certified Accreditation Professional through the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges.
In his new role, Dr. Lavery will provide leadership and oversight for CPI's adult and post-secondary education programs, with a focus on student success, program quality, continued growth and ensuring CPI's educational opportunities remain responsive to the workforce needs of the region.
"Dr. Lavery's combination of administrative leadership, classroom experience, student services, accreditation knowledge and financial aid experience provides a broad perspective on the many factors that contribute to a successful post-secondary student experience," the release said.
