Group updates lighting in recreation authority gymnasium

RENOVO -- During a recent day of pickle ball at the Western Clinton County Recreational Authority gymnasium, a group of friends and competitors were playing when Dave Brookens made reference to the outdated lighting that hung above the basketball court where they also host their pickle ball matches. What quickly followed was a 'you know, we could do this' conversation as they realized that between players, board members and community volunteers, they knew that they could convert the gym's lighting to LED.
Dave offered and bought the first set of four lights/LED bulbs and the youth center purchased the other set. Thanks to small town togetherness and volunteerism, things quickly fell into place.
Between Brookens, longtime WCCRA board member Rick Sanford, Denny Trout and Vito Janerella, the group soon had not only the required lighting, scaffolding and other equipment needed, but also the man hours and knowledge to be able to convert the lights to LED.
"They were a great group of guys. We had to maneuver the scaffolding around a few of the beams and then convert the light fixtures to work with LED bulbs, but honestly, once everyone agreed to help, it really did go rather smoothly," Sanford said of the project.
After many decades of the old fluorescent bulbs, the youth center gymnasium took on a whole new look with the state of the art lighting.
"The comment we have heard quite a few times is how much bigger the gym looks, the LED bulbs lit it up quite considerably compared to what was there," Sanford added.
Everyone is invited to stop in and check out the new LED lighting, as well as join the WCCRA just in time to be able to use the gym and other sections of the center with the winter months approaching.
