Lumber Heritage Region updates sign in Renovo with grant, community help

RENOVO -- The Lumber Heritage Region and Greater Renovo Area Heritage Park unveiled a like-new wayfinding sign outside of the GRAHP Headquarters last week in Renovo.
LHR has 23 signs in select locations that not only welcome visitors to their arriving destination but also indicates how far in miles it is to other lumber heritage locations.
Meagan Thompson, administrative & partner coordinator for Lumber Heritage Region, explained that a grant from the PA Wilds and community volunteering makes re-doing signs a possibility.
"We received a community engagement grant from the PA Wilds to restore and re-attach the wayfinding signs. We have 23 of them across our 15 counties and many of them are older and are in need of repair," Thompson explained.
"Depending on the condition of each sign, we will be taking down the old arrows and repainting them, or putting up new ones in their place like we did today in Renovo," Thompson continued.
Thompson added there is a community engagement aspect to the grant-funded project.
"A stipulation for receiving the grant was to get the community involved with the project, so we need volunteers at each of the locations. Today we have the Bald Eagle Boys Camp with us," the coordinator said of the kids and counselors that were on hand in Renovo.
The sign in Renovo now boasts all new arrows, with the elements on Erie Avenue having worn down the original indicators quite noticeably.
Each sign is also a representation in Lumber Heritage's Geo tour with caches at each sign. Adventurers are challenged to get to all 23 locations after which they receive a collectors coin at the Warren County CVB.
The challenge takes participants on a tour of the Lumber Heritage Region that covers 15 counties and land miles that cover a larger route than the outline of the state of Maryland. Over 80 people have claimed their coins and 15-20 are still remaining to be claimed.
With many remote locations on the map, a downloadable QR Code and App are available at the Lumber Heritage website and social media locations in case cell phone coverage becomes unavailable.
The Greater Renovo Area Heritage Park has long been a key advocate of the region's influence to its Lumber Heritage, as the fresh new look of the sign was welcomed out front of their headquarters.
