RENOVO -- Led by CleanScapes Project Director Elisabeth Lynch and volunteers from three western Clinton County municipalities, a morning clean up recently collected over 9,000 pounds of trash and scrap metal, as residents cleaned up their properties ahead of the winter months.
The event was sponsored by Brenda and Don Lysle, CleanScapes event sponsors and members, Clinton County Government and the Wayne Township Landfill.
In addition to having commercial dumpsters staged on 14th Street that allowed residents to drop off and discard unwanted items, the borough and township employees also offered free pick-up services for those that wanted to take advantage of the opportunity but did not have trucks or a way to haul their unwanted items to the pick-up area.
The event offered free disposal of specific items, such as anything metal and outdoor furniture. The total weight collected was 9,260 pounds, with 780 of that qualifying as scrap metal, something else that the organizers handled, going through the collection to scrap and recycle what they could.
"This is such a great group of volunteers that we had here, everyone is working hard and pitching in, you can see the pride that they have in the area," Lynch said of the local volunteers. Borough and township officials took part in the Saturday morning clean-up from Renovo and South Renovo boroughs, as well as Chapman Township.
Those on hand spent hours on site, emptying pick-up trucks and trailers that residents pulled in with, making it so that those bringing trash simply had to pull in and have their vehicles unloaded. As a work flow developed by those on 14th Street, borough representatives then began travelling to area homes to pick-up rubbish of all types that they had staged in their yards.
Attending the event were: Noyes Township Secretary/Treasurer Tracy Shady, Supervisors Kim Kelley and James Tarantella, employee Paul Tarantella; South Renovo employee Jeremy Gallagher; Renovo Borough Supervisor Vince Tarantella, employees Leon Tarr and Charles Goodling, Jr.; Clinton County CleanScapes; Board member Mala Moore and Project Director Elisabeth Lynch.
Total pounds collected by municipality were
-- Noyes Township: 3,086 pounds
-- Chapman Township: 2,058 pounds
-- South Renovo: 1,372 pounds
-- Renovo: 2,744 pounds
