LOCK HAVEN -- The Covenant Cafe, an activity group for those in the early stages of dementia, recently celebrated their 10th anniversary. The group meets at Covenant United Methodist Church in Lock Haven and is part of the Alzheimer's Association's Memory Cafe program.

The group first met on July 19, 2016, with five volunteers, a guest presenter and only two participants. Over the years the group has served over 43 participants and currently has 14 volunteers and a therapy dog.

During the pandemic in 2020, the program continued with activity packets mailed to participants and gradually returned to in-person meetings starting with outdoor activities.

The goal of the group is to help people with memory loss stay active, both physically and socially.

To celebrate their 10th anniversary, the group held a catered luncheon for participants, their families, volunteers and guests from the community who have supported the program through the years with their time and talents. The New Horizon Band from Williamsport, composed of musicians over 50, provided the entertainment under the direction of Judy Sellenberger, retired music educator and a native of Clinton County.
