Hooskow returns to Fairgrounds this weekend for 12th annual event

MILL HALL -- Chainsaw carvers from across the country will gather at the Clinton County Fairgrounds Oct. 29 to 31 for the 12th annual Hooskow Chainsaw Carving Event, a three-day celebration of woodworking, creativity and community.

The event will feature more than 50 carvers, live carving demonstrations, carvings for sale, food vendors, door prizes and a variety of activities for visitors. Admission to the event is available through a $5 three-day pass for adults and children are free.

Hooskow has grown significantly since its beginnings in 2015, when the gathering was held in a grassy field. As interest in the event increased, organizers moved it to the Clinton County Fairgrounds, where carvers and visitors now come together for the annual celebration.

Described by organizers as a close-knit family of artists, Hooskow attracts carvers from Pennsylvania and other states, bringing together a variety of artistic styles and techniques. The gathering provides an opportunity for experienced artists to reconnect while introducing new carvers and visitors to the craft.

Pennsylvania's abundance of white pine also plays a role in the event as much of the wood used by participating carvers comes from residential properties, with logs supplied through the event's partnership with Saar's Tree Service.

Throughout the event, visitors can watch artists transform logs into detailed wooden sculptures. Scheduled speed-carving competitions, quick-carving demonstrations and the Carver's Pit offer opportunities to see the artists at work, while attendees can browse finished pieces available for purchase.

One of the weekend's highlights will be the annual carving auction, scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 31, at 2 p.m. The event will also feature People's Choice Awards, T-shirt sales and door prizes.

Food vendors are scheduled to serve visitors daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

With its combination of live demonstrations, original artwork, food and community atmosphere, Hooskow offers visitors an opportunity to experience the craftsmanship and creativity behind chainsaw carving.
