MILL HALL -- The Central Mountain Marching Band returned from Blue Mountain High School with a championship banner this weekend. With a season-high score of 76.070, the Wildcats won the Class 2-A title.
One of the band's goals for this year was to attend more band shows and competitions. The Wildcats began by traveling to Wellsboro to compete at the Southern Tioga Tournament of Bands (TOB). The band earned a second-place finish with a score of 68.35.
They also attended a band festival at Tussey Mountain High School, where the bands got to watch each other perform, play "Funkytown" as a mass-band, and complete in a drill-down best marcher contest. Central Mountain senior, Tyce Greenwood, won the drill-down and brought home the traveling Tussey Tuba award to keep until next year's contest.
On Oct. 17, Central Mountain held a TOB competition at home, hosting five other high school bands from Southern Tioga, Mifflin County, North Schuylkill, Corning-Painted Post, and KCSD's own Bucktail Area HS, as well as featuring Commonwealth University-Mansfield in exhibition. At the home show, the Wildcats earned a score of 72.68.
Setting a goal of climbing four more points between last week and this week, the students each made individual goals and worked to attain them for the championship. Their hard work paid off Saturday night when they met that goal.
