KC board to consider personnel items

A dozen retirements expected at end of the year

By LAURA JAMESON 5 min read

MILL HALL -- A multitude of retirements are slated to take place at the end of Keystone Central School District's 2026-2027 school year.

Thirteen retirements for a variety of positions throughout the district were reviewed by the district's board of directors at its work session Thursday night.

Board President Elisabeth Lynch also noted a new number that was featured with this grouping.

"I want to personally say... we have some retirements coming up from teachers who have been here 25-30 years," Lynch said. "Something new to help is that I requested they add all of those salaries together so we can see that will be taken away from the budget for next year."

Lynch emphasized this number -- which is listed at $2,822,838 -- is not guaranteed.

"Some of those positions will probably have to be refilled. Will it be all of them? We have to wait and see," she said.

Board Member Chris Scaff asked if Business Manager Joni MacIntyre would be able to show what the retirement benefit costs might be for these individuals by the end of 2026-2027.

"While that's a huge number, that's salary and benefits right now," he said.

MacIntyre said she wouldn't be able to provide that information until the updated rates are provided in April or May.

"This is not a one-to-one relationship. Just because it's 2.8 million doesn't mean we're going to cut 2.8 million off of it. You could have a person that we replace that doesn't have insurance. But you could hire someone who needs insurance," she said. "That's why you don't want anybody to take this number and run with it and use it as 'we should be 3 million dollars less.' I want to be very clear with it."

Along with retirements, the board will consider the following personnel items at its voting session on Thursday, Nov. 12:
