Local parks in the area announce upcoming activities that are being offered to the public. All programs and events may be modified or canceled in the event of severe weather or new community guidelines. All children must be accompanied by an adult in order to participate.
Stream study
On Saturday, Aug. 12, at 3:30 p.m., at Little Pine State Park, join the park naturalist for a "Stream Study" and explore an underwater community to find some different aquatic insects that call this creek home. Please wear shoes to get wet. Program may be modified or canceled in the event of high water levels. Meet at the amphitheater.
Fish of Little Pine
On Saturday, Aug. 12, at 7:30 p.m., at Little Pine State Park, join the park naturalist and learn about the many different types of fish in Little Pine. Afterward, there may be some time to share fish stories. Meet at the amphitheater.
Walk the Nature Trail
On Friday, Aug. 18, at 3:30 p.m., at Hyner Run State Park, join the naturalist to "Walk the Nature Trail." There will be a discussion about the flora and fauna seen along the trail as well as the history of the area. There will also be a look into trail information and etiquette.Meet at the amphitheater.
CCC Camp S-75
On Friday, Aug. 18, at 7:30 p.m., at Hyner Run State Park, join the park naturalist and learn about "CCC Camp S-75," and the work they did in the 1930's and 1940's in the area, the culture in these camps and how it prepared them to be well-disciplined World War II veterans. Meet at the amphitheater (by the pool). Please bring a lawn chair.
Introduction to Fly Fishing
There is going to be an "Introduction to Fly Fishing" course at Little Pine State Park on Saturday, Aug. 19, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Fly fishing can be a fun way to fish for the first time or it can present a new experience for seasoned anglers. Anyone, ages 12 years and older with an interest in learning the basics of fly fishing equipment, knot tying, casting techniques and on the water skills, is welcome. It is the perfect opportunity to learn fly fishing basics and meet other fly anglers. All equipment is provided. Those under age 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Registration is required to attend this event. More information will be provided to registering participants.
