WATERVILLE -- Tiadaghton State Forest has scheduled a variety of free, family-friendly, indoor and outdoor educational programs that will take place at numerous places in the district throughout the months of January and February.

Cast Iron Campfire
Cooking Demo & Lunch
Have you ever wanted to cook a delicious meal right in your campfire? Have some cast iron cookware but are not sure how to use it? Join us on Saturday, Jan. 20, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., as we learn how to prepare a meal on a campfire using cast iron cookware, and then enjoy the meal afterwards! Winter Walk & Talk: Winter Trees
Join us on Jan. 21 at 2 p.m. at Tiadaghton State Forest Resource Management Center, Waterville, for a Sunday afternoon outdoors as we take an easy-to-moderate hike and discuss a variety of different winter topics. Bird Feeding 101
In this first of a winter series of evening talks on Wednesday, Jan. 24, at 6:30 p.m., join Tiadaghton State Forest staff for a presentation on feeding birds through the winter. For newbies and experienced bird feeders alike. Learn what types of feeders and feeds you should use to attract what birds. Wild about Teas
For thousands of years people across the globe have used their local plants to make teas for beverages and medicine. On Saturday, Jan. 27, at 1 p.m., join guest instructor Vince Curtis, Sr. as he takes us on a trip around the globe to share the history and varieties of tea - from the Far East to Latin America, to Africa and your own backyard. You will get to sample a variety of these freshly brewed teas throughout the program being held at Tiadaghton State Forest Resource Management Center, Waterville. Registration is required. Birds and Brews
Turn your love of birds and bird feeding into a scientific discovery! Join us every-other week and grab a cup of coffee or tea as we watch the bird feeders and keep a detailed account of what stops by, all while learning how to ID common feeder birds. Hunters: America's
Premier Conservationists
Join Tiadaghton State Forest staff for a virtual presentation as we discover why hunters may be considered one of the greatest groups of conservationists in the country and see how their actions contribute greatly to the preservation of our environment and the creatures that inhabit it. Learn the benefits hunting has to the environment, animal health and agriculture, as well as where the money comes from to make all this happen. Pine Creek Nature Book Club Meeting
Join Tiadaghton State Forest staff on the second Thursday of each month to discuss a nature-themed book with like-minded individuals! In February we will be reading The Trees in My Forest by Bernd Henrich. Light refreshments will be served. Registration is required. Medicinal Plants Workshop
Throughout the age's plants have been known and used for their healing properties across the globe. Many common pharmaceutical drugs on the shelves today got their start as botanical compounds. In this workshop on Saturday, Feb. 17, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., you will learn what common backyard plants can be used for their medicinal properties, sift fact from fiction when it comes to practical herbal medicine, discover different ways to incorporate these plants into your daily life and craft a few usable products to take home with you. Project Learning Tree K-8 Formal,
Informal, & Pre-Service Educator Workshop
Project Learning Tree (PLT) is an award-winning environmental education curriculum designed for students in preschool through 12th grade. This workshop will focus on the Explore your Environment K-8 Activity Guide and is geared towards both formal and informal (homeschool parents, scout leaders, 4 H leaders, etc.) educators who work with students in grades K-8. All participants will receive the newest edition of the PLT Explore Your Environment K-8 Activity Guide and formal educators can earn six Act 48 hours. Animals of Pennsylvania's Past
Wolves? Mountain Lions? Parakeets? Join Tiadaghton State Forest staff for this virtual talk about a variety of animals that once called our state home but sadly no longer do. Learn what led to their demise, what historical records say about their being here and what animals most think used to live in PA but actually may have not. VIRTUAL Pine Creek Paddle!
Join staff from Tioga and Tiadaghton State Forest for a virtual float trip down Pine Creek! This virtual tour set for Thursday, Feb. 29, at 6:30 p.m., will guide and introduce you to the resource and how to go about planning a trip. Topics covered will include history and current status, regulations and safety equipment/ procedures, "put-in" and "take-out" points along the waterway, resources to help plan trips, noteworthy features of the waterway, and what to experience along the way.
