UNIVERSITY PARK -- Interested in learning how rain barrels help improve water quality? Penn State Extension will offer the "Rain Barrel Workshop: Build Your Own" from 1-2 p.m. June 22 at the Pasto Agricultural Museum, 2710 W. Pine Grove Road, Pennsylvania Furnace.
This workshop is designed for anyone interested in learning more about rain barrels or building their own rain barrel. Attendees can learn about the benefits of installing a rain barrel on their property.
The workshop will cover:
-- Stormwater and its impacts on the environment.
-- Best management practices homeowners can implement around the landscape to lessen the negative impacts of stormwater on water quality.
-- Parts and functions of the rain barrel.
-- How to connect a rain barrel to a downspout.
Participants will have the opportunity to build a rain barrel to take home for $40 registration. Organizers request that individuals bring appropriate transportation; the barrels will fit in the back of most SUVs. Each barrel is fully equipped and ready to be connected to a downspout, including all necessary adaptors and drill bits for proper installation.
This workshop is partially funded by donations from Philips Ultrasound, allowing for a reduced attendance fee. The registration deadline is June 19.
