Various local parks will offer programs that folks may be interested in attending. All children must be accompanied by an adult in order to participate. The programs may be modified or cancelled in the event of severe weather or community guidelines.
Creek Critters
On Saturday, June 14, at 3:30 p.m., at Little Pine State Park, join the park naturalist in the program "Creek Critters" and explore an underwater community to find some different aquatic insects that call this creek home. Please wear shoes to get wet. Meet at the footbridge at the Lower Picnic Area.
World of Bats
On Saturday, June 14, at 8:30 p.m., at Little Pine State Park, there will be a program called "World of Bats" that will be focusing on some of the bats' adaptations, some myths about bats and a fungus that is threatening their population. There will also be a bat count, weather permitting. Meet at the amphitheater.
Flag Day
Ceremony
On Saturday, June 14, join the park naturalists and rangers on Flag Day to learn how to respectfully retire the American flag. A flag retirement ceremony will be held at the campground amphitheater beginning at 2 p.m. If you have a flag that is worn and tattered, and you'd like to see it retired along with others, bring it along. Please dress for the outdoor weather. In case of inclement weather this event will be cancelled. Contact the park office at 814-625-2775 for more info.
Learn Fly Fishing Basics
Here's your chance to learn to fly fish. On Wednesday, June 18, from 9 a.m. to noon, join the PA Fish and Boat Commission and park staff for this free program designed to introduce the basics of fly fishing. Those 12 years and older can learn about the equipment, knot tying, casting and more. Rods and equipment will be provided free of charge. Registration is required by visiting the PFBC's website at Event -- Fly Fishing -- June 18, in Howard, PA or by clicking the green "register" button. NOTE: Fishing license requirement is waived during the program for participants age 16 and older
Participants who register and attend the program will receive a fly fishing packet at the in-person portion of the program and additional fly fishing resources via email after the program.
Frog Pond Fun
On Thursday, June 19, from 2-3 p.m., bring the kiddos to Bald Eagle State Park for some Frog Pond Fun! Join the park naturalist to discover the species found in the pond such as frogs, tadpoles, salamanders and insects. Learn how they benefit the world around us. Participants will get to catch and identify the critters that live in the pond. Nets will be provided. Stop by anytime during the hour for this free event. Parking is available at the Winter Launch area, across the street from the gated road leading to the Frog Pond. Children should wear shoes that can get wet.

Little Pine
On Friday, June 20, at Little Pine State Park, at 3:30 p.m., join the park naturalist and learn about the work that the "CCC of Little Pine" did in the 1930's and 1940's in the area, the culture in these camps and how it prepared some to be well-disciplined World War II veterans. Meet at the amphitheater.

Hyner Run
On Friday, June 20, at 8 p.m., at Hyner Run State Park, join the park naturalist and learn about the work that the "CCC of Hyner Run" did in the 1930's and 1940's in the area, the culture in these camps and how it prepared some to be well-disciplined World War II veterans. Meet at the amphitheater by the pool. Please bring a lawn chair.
