Photo Scavenger Hunt
PHILIPSBURG -- Stop by the Black Moshannon State Park office on Saturday, Nov. 15, from 1-3 p.m., to get a checklist, then take pictures of the items. Return to the park office to get a Smokey Bear prize!
Old Fashioned Skills
PHILIPSBURG -- Black Moshannon State Park is offering a variety of Old-Fashioned Skills that may be useful for you to learn. Environmental Education Specialist (EES) Michelle will be showing the basics of two useful skills this month.
On Sunday, Nov. 16, from 1-2 p.m., find out how to easily make a rope brush, then make one to take home. The program is limited to 12 people. Pre-registration is required.
On Saturday, Nov. 22, from 1-2:30 p.m., discover how beeswax is made and how it was used throughout history. We will make a dog paw balm (which you could use, if you don't have a dog). This program is recommended for ages eight and older, is limited to 12 people and pre-registration is required
Baby Naturalists
HOWARD -- Join us on Wednesday, Nov. 19, in the Environmental Learning Center at Bald Eagle State Park for a calm, indoor program designed specifically for babies, ages six months to two years, and their guardians. Little ones will be free to explore conventional toys, sensory items and other natural objects at their own pace. We will also have some coffee and tea available for caregivers. Stop by anytime between 10 – 11:30 a.m..
Monitoring the Migration
HOWARD -- Migration season is upon us! Join the naturalist at Bald Eagle State Park on Friday, Nov. 21, at 9 a.m., at the Hunter Run Cut, where we will be on the lookout for unique waterfowl species that pass through the park in November. Some binoculars will be provided on a first-come, first-serve basis. Bring your binoculars if you have them. All ages are welcome. This program will be outdoors and may involve light walking, so please dress for the weather
Mallard and Wood Duck Basics
PHILIPSBURG -- Discover interesting facts about mallard and wood ducks, then make a call out of a straw. This program is geared towards children. Meet at the Environmental Learning Center at Black Moshannon State Park on Sunday, Nov. 23, from 1-2 p.m.
Holiday Open House
AUSTIN -- View the Wildlife Center at Sinnemahoning State Park as it's all decked out in its holiday attire, while sipping a cup of hot cocoa or mulled cider and listening to holiday music. Enjoy the eye-catching holiday displays created by park volunteers and Grandpa Hank's winter village donated by Debbie Calkins of Mansfield and the Wildlife Center exhibits. Light refreshments will be offered, plus an opportunity to create beautiful homemade ornaments using local natural materials. All ages are welcome to this free event. Please join us for the festivities on Saturday, Dec. 13, from 12-2 p.m.
