Various local parks will offer programs that folks may be interested in attending. All children must be accompanied by an adult in order to participate. The programs may be modified or cancelled in the event of severe weather or community guidelines.

Old Fashioned Skills

PHILIPSBURG -- Black Moshannon State Park is offering a variety of Old-Fashioned Skills that may be useful for you to learn. Environmental Education Specialist (EES) Michelle will be showing the basics of two useful skills this month.

On Saturday, Nov. 22, from 1-2:30 p.m., discover how beeswax is made and how it was used throughout history. We will make a dog paw balm (which you could use, if you don't have a dog). This program is recommended for ages eight and older, is limited to 12 people and pre-registration is required

On Saturday, Dec. 6, beginning at 1 p.m., you can learn how to make a salve with beeswax. Limited to 12 people, pre-registration is required for this program.

Mallard and Wood

Duck Basics

PHILIPSBURG -- Discover interesting facts about mallard and wood ducks, then make a call out of a straw. This program is geared towards children. Meet at the Environmental Learning Center at Black Moshannon State Park on Sunday, Nov. 23, from 1-2 p.m.

Natural Ornaments

PHILIPSBURG -- Black Moshannon State Park is offering a program to make ornaments out of natural materials. We will be making a pinecone deer, painting animal-themed tree cookies and making a colorful pinecone. Several other crafts will be made. This program will be held indoors, at 1 p.m., on Saturday, Nov. 29. Limited to 15 people, pre-registration is required.

Homeschool Day

PHILIPSBURG -- On Thursday, Dec. 11, you can discover the adaptations of birds at Black Moshannon State Park. You will make a bird out of craft supplies that has unique features that would solve the given scenario. This program is geared toward students ages 6-10, but anyone is welcome to attend. The program begins at 1 p.m. and is limited to 15 people. Pre-registration is required.
