In the parks
Various local parks will offer programs that folks may be interested in attending. All children must be accompanied by an adult in order to participate. The programs may be modified or cancelled in the event of severe weather or community guidelines.
Coyotes of PA
HYNER — On Saturday, May 30, at 3:30 p.m., at Hyner Run State Park, join the park naturalist to learn more about the “Coyotes of Pa.” Topics will include adaptations, diet and a brief overview of the natural history of the Eastern Coyote within Pa. This is designed to be an informal program.

Spring Birding
and Activity Fair
HOWARD — Spring is in the air at Bald Eagle State Park! Join us on May 30 at noon in the Beach Area from 12-4 p.m. for an afternoon of family-friendly activities, featuring 10+ informational tables and activities presented by local organizations and groups! Attending organizations include DCNR State Parks, PA Game Commission, Penn State Extension, local Audubon Society chapters and more! This event will be full of fun activities for children and interesting displays for adults.
The Scoop on Poo
MIFFLINBURG — Some of the animals at Raymond B. Winter State Park can be quite secretive, so we don’t always see them in the park. However, we often find clues that tell us who is here, where they are going or what they are doing. Join the park educator on Saturday, May 30, at 1 p.m., at the Environmental Center to learn about animals’ diets by looking at their scat and how to identify who it might belong to. As a special treat, we will also be making our own edible scat models with snacks and sweets!

Guided Nature Walk
MIFFLINBURG — Join the R.B. Winter State Park educator on Sunday, May 31, at 10 a.m., for a 1-mile nature walk on the Rapid Run Nature Trail to learn about the park’s environmental history and unique ecological features. This walk is relatively easy and perfect for young children. Participants are recommended to wear durable shoes and bring water. Please meet at the Beach House! Eco-paddling at Poe
COBURN — Tired of walking around Poe Lake to check it out? Come see it out by boat! No experience or equipment required! On Sunday, May 31, at 10 a.m., we will be starting the paddle with some quick tips and tricks on how to kayak like an amateur before we head out for a paddle around the lake to check out the plants and animals that call this lake home!
This program is designed for people of all ages (as long as they are over 30 pounds) to learn how to kayak. Registration for this program is required. There is a limited amount of kayaks and equipment in various sizes for adults and kids available, so reserve your spot early! For more information or to reserve your spot, please contact the park naturalist at korndorf@pa.gov.
Please register all participants if you are registering as a group and report weight within these categories: 30-50 lb.; 50-90 lb.; or above 90 lb. and report the age, either above age 18 or below age 18. If below 18 please say the age so we can most appropriately size life jackets and kayaks.If you have your own equipment, you are welcome to join as well! Please contact the park naturalist at Poe Valley State Park so we know to expect you. The program runs from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., and will also start again at 1 p.m. on May 31.
Night Sounds in the Valley
COBURN — Curious as to who is making all that ruckus while you’re trying to sleep? Join the park naturalist at Poe Valley State Park on Friday, June 5, at 7:30 p.m., as we talk about and listen to the calls of the amphibians, birds and mammals you may hear in the campground during your stay!
Poe Trivia Night
COBURN — Think you know your favorite state park? Test your knowledge of Poe Valley history, flora and fauna to see how well you really know it! Get your winning team together and make your way to the Poe Valley State Park amphitheater on Saturday, June 6, beginning at 7:30 p.m., to compete in Poe Valley’s Trivia Night. There will be prizes for the winning team!
Archery in the Park
WATERVILLE — On Saturday, June 6, at Little Pine State Park, between 1 and 4 p.m., join the Park Educator and get an intro course in “Archery.” All equipment will be provided. Meet at the Archery Range in the Northern part of the park.
