In the Parks
Various local parks will offer programs that folks may be interested in attending. All children must be accompanied by an adult in order to participate. The programs may be modified or cancelled in the event of severe weather or community guidelines.
Night Sounds in the Valley
COBURN — Curious as to who is making all that ruckus while you’re trying to sleep? Join the park naturalist at Poe Valley State Park on Friday, June 5, at 7:30 p.m., as we talk about and listen to the calls of the amphibians, birds and mammals you may hear in the campground during your stay!
Poe Trivia Night
COBURN — Think you know your favorite state park? Test your knowledge of Poe Valley history, flora and fauna to see how well you really know it! Get your winning team together and make your way to the Poe Valley State Park amphitheater on Saturday, June 6, beginning at 7:30 p.m., to compete in Poe Valley’s Trivia Night. There will be prizes for the winning team!
Archery in the Park
WATERVILLE — On Saturday, June 6, at Little Pine State Park, between 1 and 4 p.m., join the Park Educator and get an intro course in “Archery.” All equipment will be provided. Meet at the Archery Range in the Northern part of the park.
Kids Fishing Derby
CROSS FORK — Children (and their parents) are invited to Ole Bull State Park for a free Kids Fishing Derby on Saturday, June 6. Registration begins at 9 a.m. at the stone pavilion, followed by fishing from 10 a.m. until noon at the kids fishing area. This derby is for all children ages 12 and younger with adult supervision. Prizes will be awarded at 12:15 p.m. at the amphitheater.
Sunday Stroll
HOWARD — Sunday is a fun day at Bald Eagle State Park! Come along with the park naturalist on Sunday, June 7, at 10 a.m., for a 1.5-mile guided walk along the Foot-bridge loop for a fresh start to the week. We will meet at Hunter Run West Launch parking lot for the approximate one hour stroll in the park.
Mountain Laurel Hike
COBURN — We’re entering peak foliage of one of our best flowers here in Pa.! Join the Poe Valley State Park naturalist on Sunday, June 7, at 9:30 a.m., on a short 1-mile hike as we take in the beauty of our state flower: the mountain laurel!
Please wear sturdy shoes and dress appropriately for the weather. Program will be cancelled in the event of inclement weather. Meet at the Poe Valley Park office.
