Various local parks will offer programs that folks may be interested in attending. All children must be accompanied by an adult in order to participate. The programs may be modified or cancelled in the event of severe weather or community guidelines.
Early Bird Walk
HOWARD -- The early bird gets the worm; and the early birder sees the bird! Join the park naturalist at Bald Eagle State Park on Saturday, June 13, at 8 a.m., for a guided, casual birding walk on portions of the Woapalanne and Butterfly Trails. The park will have binoculars to loan. All levels of experience and ages are welcome. Trails are flat and grassy, but not stroller friendly. Meet at the Winter Launch. Walk will take about one hour.
Black Bears at Hyner
NORTH BEND -- On Saturday, June 13, at 4 p.m., at Hyner Run State Park, join the park naturalist to learn more about the "Black Bears" around Pa. Topics will include adaptations, diet and a brief overview of the natural history of the black bear. This is designed to be an informal program.
Dark Sky Tour with
Binoculars at Hyner
HYNER -- On Saturday, June 13, at Hyner View State Park, at 9:15 p.m., join the park naturalist and go on a "Night Sky Tour with Binoculars." Participants will be learning how to use a star map, finding visible constellations and sharing some folklore and mythology about them. Please bring binoculars to enhance the view of some of the different constellations and stars.
Art in the Park
RENOVO -- Frogs are such fascinating critters! The wood frog, for example, freezes in the winter, thaws out and hops away in the spring. Come on out to the Kettle Creek State Park's nature center on Sunday, June 14, at 9:30 a.m., for the Frog Edition of Art in the Park, where you can try your hand at drawing a frog.
Park Beautification Day
HOWARD -- Looking for a volunteer opportunity? Join the park naturalist on Monday, June 15, from 10 a.m. to noon, to help make Bald Eagle State Park look its best! We will meet to do different service projects a few times per month. These projects can include, but are not limited to, litter removal, trail maintenance, painting and more! Come anytime during the program to get your hands dirty and help improve the park for all to enjoy. We will always meet at the park office at 10 a.m. to start. You can still show up anytime during the program, just ask the park office staff where to go. It is recommended that you wear clothes that you don't mind getting dirty or painted.
Insect Safari
NORTH BEND -- On Friday, June 19, at 3 p.m., at Hyner Run State Park, join the park naturalist and learn some of the characteristics of an insect on an "Insect Safari." There will be a craft. This program is intended for children, but anyone is free to attend. Meet at the pool.

WATERVILLE -- Join the park naturalist at Little Pine State Park on Friday, June 19, from 8-9 p.m., to learn some of the characteristics of an insect and also go on a walk to look for different insects and their cousins. There will be a craft. This program is intended for children, but anyone is welcome to attend. Meet at the amphitheater.
