Various local parks will offer programs that folks may be interested in attending. All children must be accompanied by an adult in order to participate. The programs may be modified or cancelled in the event of severe weather or community guidelines.
Frog Pond Fun
HOWARD -- Join the park naturalist at Bald Eagle State Park on Saturday, July 18, to discover the diverse species found at our pond such as frogs, tadpoles, salamanders and insects and how they benefit the world around us! Participants will have the opportunity to catch and ID critters that live in the Frog Pond. All nets and materials will be provided. Stop by anytime during the program timeframe from 10-11:30 a.m.
Stories in the Stars
COBURN -- Join the Poe Valley State Park naturalist on Saturday, July 18, at 7:30 p.m, as we talk about the stories different cultures around the world have created to add a little extra excitement to those bright lights in the night sky! We'll discuss tales around some of our favorite constellations like Cygnus the Swan, Canis Major and Canis Minor. We'll learn how some of these constellation stories change from culture to culture. A fire will be going, s'mores kits available and lots of seating! (Although if you want to sit closer to the fire feel free to bring your own chairs as bench seating provided is not very close to the fire.) Meet at the amphitheatre.
World of Bats
NORTH BEND -- On Friday, July 24, at 8:30 p.m., at Hyner Run State Park, there will be a program called "World of Bats." This program will be focusing on some of the bats' adaptations, some myths about bats and a fungus that is threatening their population. There will also be a bat count, weather permitting. Meet at the amphitheater by the pool.
Creek Critters
NORTH BEND -- On Friday, July 24, at 3:30 p.m., at Hyner Run State Park, join the park naturalist to learn about some different "Creek Critters" that call Hyner Run home. There will also be a craft. Meet beside the pool.
The Scoop on Poo
MIFFLINBURG -- Some of the animals at Raymond B. Winter State Park can be quite secretive, so we don't always see them in the park. However, we often find clues that tell us who is here, where they are going or what they are doing. Join the park educator on Saturday, July 25, to learn about animals' diets by looking at their scat and how to identify who it might belong to.
As a special treat, we will also be making our own edible scat models with snacks and sweets! Please note, for those with allergies, that the foods used contain chocolate, seeds and nuts.
Meet at the Environmental Learning Center for the program which will run from 2-3 p.m.

WATERVILLE -- On Saturday, July 25, at 3:30 p.m., at Little Pine State Park, join the park naturalist and explore an underwater community to find some different "Creek Critters" that call this creek home. Meet at the footbridge at the Lower Picnic Area.
