Various local parks will offer programs that folks may be interested in attending. All children must be accompanied by an adult in order to participate. The programs may be modified or cancelled in the event of severe weather or community guidelines.
Afternoon Birding on Lake Shore Trail
WATERVILLE -- On Saturday, Aug. 22, at 3:30 p.m., join the Little Pine State Park naturalist for some "Afternoon Birding on Lake Shore Trail." Topics will include the different birds that live at Little Pine and how to identify them. A limited number of binoculars will be on hand. Please bring any other birding gear if desired. Meet at the beginning of the Lake Shore Trail at the kiosk at the dam.
CCC of Little Pine
WATERVILLE -- On Saturday, Aug. 22, at 8 p.m., join the Little Pine State Park naturalist and learn about the work of the "CCC of Little Pine," the culture in CCC camps, and how the CCC prepared some to be well-disciplined World War II veterans. Meet at the amphitheater.
Nature Journaling Club
HOWARD -- Join Autumn Knepp, Pennsylvania Master Naturalist, for a topic-focused Nature Journaling session at Bald Eagle State Park on Saturday, Aug. 22, from 10 a.m. to noon! We will have an introduction to nature journaling, perfect for beginners, or a nice refresher for experienced nature journal keepers. Bring your nature journal and favorite journaling supplies to this meeting. If you don't want to bring art supplies, we will also have some pens, markers, crayons, etc. to share, along with some paper that can be spliced into your personal journal later. All ages and artistic abilities are welcome!

Marvelous Monarchs
HOWARD -- Join in on a crash-course all about Monarch butterflies with the Bald Eagle State Park naturalist on Saturday, Aug. 22, at 2 p.m.! We will learn about the life cycle of a monarch butterfly, discover tips on how to raise butterflies at home, look for caterpillars and try to tag some wild butterflies with Monarch Watch tags (if we can catch them!).
This program is totally free to attend, all ages are welcome. Meet at the Frog Pond, which is about a 0.25 mile walk down a flat/grass trail from Main Park Road.The closest parking would be at the Winter Launch.
Art in the Park: Hummingbird edition
RENOVO -- Flutter out to Kettle Creek State Park's nature center on Saturday, Aug. 22, at 7:30 p.m., to learn about Hummingbirds. They are the tiniest birds in the world, yet they qualify as some of the toughest and most energetic creatures on the planet. We'll be drawing a hummingbird step by step and by the end of the program, you'll have a marvelous masterpiece to take home! See you there!!!
Nature Sound Bingo
CROSS FORK -- How well do you know your calls of the wilds? Come on out to Ole Bull State Park's amphitheater on Saturday, Aug. 22, at 3 p.m., to learn and review different calls and sounds heard within Pa. Afterwards, we'll test what you learned with a fun game of Bingo.

RENOVO -- If you think you know your calls of the wilds then come on out to the Kettle Creek State Park's nature center on Sunday, Aug. 23, at 9:30 a.m., to learn and review different calls and sounds heard within Pa. Afterwards, put your knowledge to the test in a fun game of Bingo.
Tree ID Walk
MIFFLINBURG -- On Aug. 23, at 10:30 a.m., come to RB Winter State Park for a Tree Walk. Join the RB Winter State Park naturalist for a Sunday stroll around the park to look at our trees. Learn how to identify common tree species based on their leaf shape and arrangement using a dichotomous key! The walk should take about one hour. Meet at the Environmental Learning Center.
