Various local parks will offer programs that folks may be interested in attending. All children must be accompanied by an adult in order to participate. The programs may be modified or cancelled in the event of severe weather or community guidelines.
Insect Safari
WATERVILLE -- On Saturday, Aug. 29, at 3:30 p.m., join the naturalist at Little Pine State Park to learn some of the characteristics of an insect and go on an "Insect Safari." There will be a craft.This program is intended for children, but anyone is free to attend. Meet at the amphitheater.
Logging of Little
Pine Valley
WATERVILLE -- On Saturday, Aug. 29, at 8 p.m., at Little Pine State Park, step back into time and experience the culture of the lumbermen in the late 1800's and the "Logging of Little Pine Valley." Topics will include the local history and prehistory of the area, the different developments made during the era and the results at the end of the era. Meet at the amphitheater.
History Hike at Poe Paddy
WOODWARD -- Get ready for a walk on the John Snyder Trail and through the Poe Paddy tunnel as we discuss how our beloved Poe Paddy State Park came to be. On Saturday, Aug. 29, at 6:30 p.m., we'll talk about what was here before the first camper pitched their tent, and how we got to where we are today. With a highlight on how some of the special people who have called this place "home away from home" for the last several decades have helped shape our park.
*Please be prepared to walk to the tunnel and back from Poe Paddy, about 1 mile total. Meet at the boat launch parking lot. .
Sunday Stroll
HOWARD -- Sunday is a fun day for a stroll at Bald Eagle State Park! Come with the park naturalist on Sunday, Aug. 30, for a 1.5-mile guided walk along the Foot-bridge loop for a fresh start to the week. We will meet at Hunter Run West Launch parking lot at 10 a.m. The walk will take about one hour.
Homemade Bird Feeders
HOWARD -- Join the Bald Eagle State Park naturalist on Monday, Aug. 31, at 6 p.m., to create your own bird feeder to take home. We will be building them using recycled supplies. This is environmentally friendly and more can be recreated at home later. Stop by the Environmental Learning Center below the main office any time from 6-7 p.m. All ages are welcome!

WATERVILLE -- On Friday, Sept, 4, at 4 p.m., join the Little Pine State Park naturalist to learn about the different "Snakes of Pa." Topics will include the myths that have come up, diets, habitat and more. Meet at the amphitheater.

Stream Study
WATERVILLE -- On Saturday, Sept. 5, at 3:30 p.m., join the Little Pine State Park naturalist to do a "Stream Study" to learn about some different aquatic insects that call Little Pine Creek home. Meet at the campground entrance.
Star Tour
WATERVILLE -- On Saturday, Sept. 5, at 8:30 p.m., join the Little Pine State Park naturalist and go on a "Star Tour." Participants will be learning how to use a star map, finding visible constellations and sharing some folklore and mythology about them. Please bring binoculars to enhance the view of some of the different constellations and stars. Should the weather be cloudy, an alternative program will be offered. Meet at the main day use area parking lot.

Night Sky
RENOVO -- When was the last time you looked up at the stars? Did you know that when you're looking up, you're actually looking into the past? Come on out to the Kettle Creek State Park's upper campground playground area on Saturday, Sept. 5, at 9 .m., and join park staff to learn a little bit about the night sky, what seasonal constellations appear, and some myths and legends associated with those constellations. All programs will be cancelled in the event of rain or thunder.
Rainbows
CROSS FORK -- Everybody knows ROY G BIV, but do you know the science behind the rainbow process? Come on over to the Ole Bull State Park campground amphitheater on Saturday, Sept. 5, at 3 p.m., to find out more and learn how rainbows are formed. You'll get to make an actual rainbow with science, then after, we'll make an effervescent craft for you to take home. This program is geared towards kiddos, but all ages are welcome!
