Various local parks will offer programs that folks may be interested in attending. All children must be accompanied by an adult in order to participate. The programs may be modified or cancelled in the event of severe weather or community guidelines.
Stream Study
WATERVILLE -- On Saturday, Sept. 5, at 3:30 p.m., join the Little Pine State Park naturalist to do a "Stream Study" to learn about some different aquatic insects that call Little Pine Creek home. Meet at the campground entrance.
Star Tour
WATERVILLE -- On Saturday, Sept. 5, at 8:30 p.m., join the Little Pine State Park naturalist and go on a "Star Tour." Participants will be learning how to use a star map, finding visible constellations and sharing some folklore and mythology about them. Please bring binoculars to enhance the view of some of the different constellations and stars. Should the weather be cloudy, an alternative program will be offered. Meet at the main day use area parking lot.
Astronomy and the Night Sky
RENOVO -- When was the last time you looked up at the stars? Did you know that when you're looking up, you're actually looking into the past? Come on out to the Kettle Creek State Park's upper campground playground area on Saturday, Sept. 5, at 9 .m., and join park staff to learn a little bit about the night sky, what seasonal constellations appear, and some myths and legends associated with those constellations. All programs will be cancelled in the event of rain or thunder.
Rainbows
CROSS FORK -- Everybody knows ROY G BIV, but do you know the science behind the rainbow process? Come on over to the Ole Bull State Park campground amphitheater on Saturday, Sept. 5, at 3 p.m., to find out more and learn how rainbows are formed. You'll get to make an actual rainbow with science, then after, we'll make an effervescent craft for you to take home. This program is geared towards kiddos, but all ages are welcome!
Edible Astronomy
RENOVO -- Join the Kettle Creek State Park educator at the park's nature center on Sunday, Sept. 6, at 2:45 p.m., to learn about the night sky, different phases of the moon, the constellations and the stars associated with them. Along the way, we'll learn how to construct a constellation model of the stars using fun and tasty treats! Program designed for all ages, especially kids!
Creek Critters
NORTH BEND -- On Sunday, Sept. 6, at 3:30 p.m., join the Hyner Run State Park naturalist to learn about "Creek Critters" that call Hyner Run home. There will also be a craft. Meet beside the pool.

Bonfire on the Beach
COBURN -- Poe Valley's Bonfire on the Beach is back and full of fun! Join the concession stand and park staff on Sunday, Sept. 6, anytime from 1-9 p.m. for games, activities, live music and a bonfire. Activities and games include a sack race, scavenger hunt, Bingo, sand castle building contest and a talent show starting at 4:30 p.m. Brush Mountain Band will provide the musical entertainment from 6-9 p.m. and the bonfire will be lit at dusk.
Fall Ambience
NORTH BEND -- On Saturday, Sept. 12, at 8 p.m., join the Hyner Run State Park naturalist for a relaxing evening to hear "Fall Ambience." Topics of discussion will center around what is being heard. This is designed to be an informal program. Meet at the amphitheater by the pool. Please bring a lawn chair.
