Stock broker given probation in case of heroin overdose

STATE COLLEGE — In the early morning hours of last Feb. 14, a passerby driving home from work noticed a body lying face-down next to Plainfield Road in Ferguson Township and summoned police. First responders immediately realized that the victim, clad only in a T-shirt, sweatpants, socks, and wrapped in a bright red bedsheet, was deceased.

After a thorough investigation by Ferguson Township police, the victim was identified as Corinne Pena, 35 years of age. The investigation revealed that Pena was with Robert Moir in the immediate days leading up to her body’s discovery. Based on that information, police obtained and executed a lawful search warrant on Moir’s home.

When law enforcement appeared at his door, he admitted he knew why they were there and stated “it had been eating at him.”

Moir ultimately conceded to the police that Ms. Pena had been staying in his home with him when she suffered a heroin overdose in the early morning hours of Feb. 14, 2016.

Rather than summon an ambulance upon finding her deceased on the bathroom floor, Moir chose to cloak her in a bedsheet, drag her lifeless body through the rooms of his home, placed her in the back seat of his vehicle, and drove to an area in Pine Grove Mills to place her body outside in the cold, frigid weather for someone else to find. During his interview with police, Moir also confessed that he wrote an anonymous letter to the Centre County Coroner which suggested Ms. Pena’s identity.

Moir was charged with Abuse of a Corpse, a misdemeanor of the 2nd degree on Feb. 23, 2016. He pled guilty to the charge this past Aug. 1. His sentencing occurred Tuesday before the Judge Thomas King Kistler, who sentenced Moir to a term of two years’ probation. He is also required to perform one day of community service and pay the costs of prosecution.
