Fleeing police, drug possession and related charges
CASTANEA -- Steven Michael Eldred, Jr. was taken into custody on May 31 after he fled Mill Hall Police, who attempted to stop him for a traffic violation.
Eldred then fled in his vehicle throughout Castanea until he stopped his vehicle at 337 West Brown Street and attempted to escape on foot, police said. He was ordered to the ground and taken into custody.
The vehicle was then impounded and a search warrant was obtained and executed yielding marijuana, designer methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia to have been recovered from Eldred's vehicle, police said. An altered PA state inspection sticker was located on the dashboard to mislead police or inspection officials into believing the vehicle met the PA inspection regulations, police said.
Eldred was taken to the Clinton County Jail via probation detainer and charged with the following: fleeing or attempting to elude police; driving with a DUI suspended license; altered, forged or counterfeit documents; possession of controlled substance; possession of drug paraphernalia; resisting arrest; reckless driving; and tampering with or fabricating physical evidence.
The investigation is ongoing.
Crash due to failing brakes
BELLEFONTE -- Christopher Gerald, 39, of Osceola Mills, crashed his Lincoln MKZ into a tree after the vehicle's brakes failed along West College Avenue in Benner Township, according to state police at Rockview.
The crash occurred at 3:52 p.m. on May 31 as Gerald attempted to slow down for a stopped school bus with flashing red lights while traveling west. His vehicle's brakes then failed, causing him to swerve to the right in order to miss a vehicle stopped behind the bus, police said. The vehicle then left the roadway, striking the tree on the right shoulder, police said.
No injuries were reported and the vehicle was towed from the scene by Rich's Amoco. Gerald was charged with driving within a single lane, police said.
