Man identified, charged for 2021 crash
BELLEFONTE — A Bellefonte man was charged by state police at Frackville for fleeing from a serious crash in 2021.
On Tuesday, June 27, Trooper Thomas Powell filed charges against the driver who fled – Gregory Dubois, 48, of Bellefonte, who police said at the time of the crash had a suspended license.
Police said Dubois was charged with three felony counts of accidents involving death or injury and intimidation of a witness and refraining from reporting, three misdemeanor charges for accidents involving death or injury, careless driving, driving with a suspended or revoked license, and other traffic offenses.
Court documents indicated that Dubois was identified through an anonymous tip through Pennsylvania Crime Stoppers; attempts made by State Troopers to interview him turned up negative.
Friends and neighbors declared that at the time of the crash, Dubois had contacted them and said he was involved in a crash, that he had fled, and that he was worried cops would find out, police said.
According to skooknews.com, a Schuylkill County online news source, the body shop had record that Dubois had body work done not long after the crash and he paid for the damages with cash not insurance; this evidence and the interviews and witness accounts led to the charges being filed against Dubois.
On Wednesday, July 5, 2023, he was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Anthony Kilker, Shenandoah, and released on $50,000 unsecured bail.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled before Judge Kilker on Aug. 17.
