PORT MATILDA -- A 38-year-old Newman Hill, Inc. employee and Milesburg resident, Nathen R. Kerstetter, succumbed to fatal injuries on Jan. 17 while on the back of a garbage truck at the residence of 200 N. Main St. in Port Matilda, according to state police at Rockview.
Kerstetter was allegedly the passenger of the garbage collection truck and was hanging on the back to pick up garbage along their route when the vehicle's operator failed to recognize an overhanging tree along the side of the residence's driveway. The vehicle then backed up and Kerstetter allegedly was struck by the tree. He sustained fatal injuries due to the impact, police said in their report.
Port Matilda EMA, Port Matilda Fire Company, Centre LifeLink EMS, LifeFlight and the Rockview State Police assisted at the scene.
Centre County Chief Deputy Coroner J.D. Kubalak was summoned to the scene. A press release indicated that an autopsy was performed at Mount Nittany Medical Center concludes the cause of death was listed as blunt force trauma.
