JERSEY SHORE -- A Lamar man is back in jail after breaking into his mother's home along Glover Street in Jersey Shore Borough this week.
Matthew Munro, of Locust Street, Lamar, had just been released from the Clinton County Correctional Facility nine days earlier when Lycoming Regional Police were called to the 300 Block of Glover Street in the borough for reports of a domestic disturbance on May 1.
According to a release from the department via Crimewatch, at approximately 11:45 a.m. police were dispatched to 348 Glover St. for disturbance between mother and son.
"Officers responded and made contact with the 911 caller and property owner. The 911 caller advised officers that she had just returned home from work and discovered that her door was forced opened," the release said. "She stated that she entered her home with caution and saw a bookbag that belonged to her adult son."
The victim said Munro called out to her and stated, "I kicked your (expletive) door down."
She told police Munro was acting agitated and said he was working "undercover."
She stated she felt unsafe and fled the residence, calling 911.
Police arrived on scene and attempted to make contact with Munro who was still inside the residence. Officers identified themselves and could see Munro inside the home, the release said.
"After identifying themselves Munro yelled to officers 'I have a service weapon, it’s a 9mm, it’s loaded, and I am going to unload it.'"
Officers retreated a safe distance and requested additional police units, the release said.
Additional information was received from Munro's mother that he has a substance abuse disorder and was recently released from prison, the release said. She also indicated Munro did not have permission to forcibly enter her home.
"Officers attempted several times to get Munro to exit the residence by using a patrol cars intercom system. At one point Munro exited the rear of the residence and told officers, '(Expletive) you, you can’t arrest me,'" the release said.
Munro refused commands to exit and returned back into the residence. A perimeter was established, and multiple law enforcement, fire and EMS agencies responded to assist with the barricaded incident.
At about 1:30 p.m., Munro exited the residence but was taken into custody as he attempted to go back inside the residence, the release said.
"Munro was found to be in possession of a firearm, which was located inside the residence. Police seized an additional long rifle from Munro's possession and drug paraphernalia," the release said.
Munro was arraigned in front of District Judge Denise Dieter on charges of criminal trespass, possessing instruments of crime, criminal mischief, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
Munro was denied bail and committed to Lycoming County Prison.
Multiple agencies assisted LRPD with the safe conclusion barricaded incident including PA State Police, Lycoming County Adult Probation, Pine Creek Township Police, Lycoming County Sheriffs Office, Jersey Shore Independant Fire Company, Citizens Fire Company, Jersey Shore EMS/TEMS, PA Game Commission and Lycoming County HNT.
Williamsport Bureau of Police SERT was activated for this incident.
