A Marsh Creek home at 119 Short Lane is seen ablaze.
MARSH CREEK -- A Marsh Creek home was reduced to rubble after fire broke out on Saturday afternoon.
The blaze, at 119 Short Lane, off Marsh Creek Road, in Liberty Township, began about 12:30 p.m., according to reports.
The fire began when the occupants were attempting to thaw frozen water pipes with a hair dryer. The blow dryer shorted out causing sparks that ignited. An attempt to use a fire extinguisher was not successful and when water was thrown onto the flames they erupted and before too long the entire home was engulfed.
Beech Creek-Blanchard Fire Company firefighters immediately responded and, once on scene, Chief Jim Watson declared the home fully involved with heavy fire showing. The flames were knocked down just before 2 p.m.
In addition to Beech Creek-Blanchard Fire Company, the blaze was attacked by firefighters from Lock Haven, Mill Hall and Flemington Goodwill Hose in Clinton County, as well as Howard Fire Company from Centre County.
Goodwill Hose also provided ambulance support and PennDOT responded to address the icy road conditions from pumping and shuttling water to the fire scene.
The home that was occupied by Darren Hauser and his son is a total loss. The two escaped the blaze with only what they were wearing and are now staying with a family member, Ivy Hauser. Gift cards and monetary donations would be greatly appreciated so that the two may buy the items necessary to meet their immediate needs.
