GROVE PARK -- Brenda Heverly, 19, of Moshannon, and three teenage passengers in a 2017 Kia Forte she was operating were hospitalized following a fiery crash on Jan. 11, according to state police at Rockview.
The crash occurred around 8 p.m. on Valley View Road, east of North Fillmore Road in Benner Township, when a deer entered the roadway in front of Heverly's vehicle.
Heverly swerved to avoid the deer, leaving the left-hand side of the roadway. The vehicle struck a tree and rolled over in a wooded area off Valley View Road before being engulfed in flames, according to state police.
Heverly sustained severe injuries and was flown via Life Flight to UPMC Williamsport. Police said she was charged with driving at an unsafe speed.
Two passengers, a boy and girl, both 17-years-old, one from Spring Mills and the other from Bellefonte, were transported to UPMC Altoona by Centre Lifelink EMS for moderate injuries. A 14-year-old male passenger from Lock Haven was taken to Mount Nittany Medical Center, while a fourth passenger, a 15-year-old girl from Mill Hall, was uninjured.
None of the occupants were believed to have been wearing seat belts, according to police.
