Elysburg teen killed in crash on Route 64

LAMAR — State police at Lamar responded to a fatal accident on Route 64 in Porter Township at the tail end of January.

According to reports, police responded to the accident that occurred around 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 29, in the area of the TruGreen Lawn Care, 5967 Nittany Valley Drive, Mill Hall. The accident occurred when Joshua Lahr, 19, of Elysburg, was traveling north and failed to notice that a Kenworth box truck had stopped on the roadway to make a left turn into the parking lot of the business, according to reports. Lahr’s Subaru Forester SUV struck the rear of the box truck.

Lahr was wearing his seat belt and the vehicle’s airbags deployed, but despite the best efforts of firefighters and EMTs, Lahr died at the scene from his injuries, according to reports.

The driver of the box truck, a Hazleton man, was not injured in the crash.

Route 64 was closed to traffic for approximately two hours from the truck stops in Lamar to the vicinity of Heltman Road during the accident investigation and clean up. The road was reopened to motorists around 10:30 a.m.

Assisting state police at the crash scene were Clinton County fire departments from Nittany Valley Fire Company, Mill Hall and Goodwill Hose in Flemington, as well as Walker Township Fire Company in Centre County.

Lahr was a 2023 graduate of Columbia Montour Vo-Tech and was currently enrolled as a student at Penn College majoring in Cyber Security.
