Flemington woman charged in meth-by-mail scheme and delivery

Jennifer Smith

LOCK HAVEN — Jennifer Smith, 37, of Huston Street, Flemington, was arrested by Pennsylvania State Police resulting from two separate investigations late last week. According to a release from District Attorney Dave Strouse’s office via Crimewatch, investigators allegedly seized a parcel that was addressed to an elderly woman in Lock Haven that contained 920 grams (just over 2 pounds) of methamphetamine.

Police then conducted a controlled delivery of the package after substituting “sham” or fake controlled substances, into the parcel, the release said.

Through surveillance, police were able to observe the package being retrieved from the addressed location and transported to 205 Huston St. in Flemington where it was opened. Police then conducted a search pursuant to a search warrant of the Huston Street address and apprehended Smith on the second floor of the residence, and the opened parcel inside of a bedroom allegedly belonging to Smith, the release said.

Police also seized various other items of drug paraphernalia, including needles and a digital scale, and other suspected controlled substances.

In a separate investigation, state police charged Smith with the delivery of approximately one ounce of methamphetamine in exchange for $350 to a confidential informant.

Smith was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Keith Kibler on the meth by mail case, with bail being set at $50,000.

Magisterial District Judge Heidi Wright arraigned Smith on the delivery charges and set bail at $20,000.

Smith remains incarcerated with court appearances scheduled for April 21 and April 28.
