PSP release Fourth of July statistics

Lamar barracks report no DUI arrests over weekend

LOCK HAVEN — Pennsylvania State Police released statistics regarding crashes and other enforcement which took place over the 4-day Fourth of July holiday weekend.

According to a release from PSP, it investigated 803 vehicle crashes during the holiday’s travel period — July 3 through July 6. These crashes included 12 fatalities and 58 non-fatal crashes which involved a driver under the influence.

“During the enforcement period, state troopers made 458 arrests for driving under the influence and 150 drug-related arrests,” a release from PSP said. “Troopers also issued 5,790 speeding citations, 634 citations for seat belt violations and 131 citations for child safety seat violations.”

It was noted by PSP the statistics presented were only for those investigated by state police and didn’t include those which other law enforcement agencies responded to.

In the Clinton County area — which is covered by state police at Lamar — a sobriety checkpoint was set up during the weekend.

According to police, 98 motorists came through the checkpoint and zero DUI arrests were made.
