Stand off leads to arrest in Milesburg
MILESBURG — After an extensive stand off involving a heavy police presence in Milesburg Borough, one man was arrested and charged after allegedly aiming a pistol at a woman’s head on Tuesday evening.
According to court documents, Joshua L. Resides, 41, of Boggs Township, pointed a weapon at her at about 2 p.m. Tuesday as she gathered her property from a home in the 200 block of Sparrow Drive.
Documents allege that the victim told state police at Rockview, after he aimed the pistol at her, Resides said “I have the right to shoot you” and referenced trespassing. After lowering the weapon, Resides allegedly aimed the weapon at her body and recorded her with his cellphone.
According to court documents, the victim told troopers Resides placed the pistol in his pocket and went back to the home. After this, she called the police 30 minutes later when the front door was locked.
Upon arrival, state police found the victim outside the residence unharmed. Troopers said several attempts were made to contact Resides, but he did not respond.
A heavy police presence surrounded the home for roughly five hours before the standoff ended when Resides came to the door and was taken into custody. He was charged with terroristic threats, simple assault and harassment.
Centre County 9-1-1 took to social media Tuesday night and urged area residents to avoid the Breon’s Mobile Home Park areas while the standoff took place.
District Judge Kelley Gillette-Walker denied bail and Resides remains in the Centre County Correctional Facility with a preliminary hearing scheduled for Aug. 20.
