Known mechanical problems cause accident, I-80 jam
MILESBURG — Bayram Juraev, 24, of Brooklyn, N.Y., was charged with unlawfully operating unsafe equipment after known mechanical issues with his 2021 Mack truck led to a crash, according to state police at Rockview.
The accident, which caused hours-long traffic delays on Interstate 80 westbound, occurred when Juraev lost control of the truck, it struck a guardrail and overturned onto its passenger side down an embankment, police said.
The truck was disabled in the crash and caused damage to the guardrail and embankment. Juraev, who was the only person involved, sustained suspected minor injuries.
I-80 westbound was reduced to one lane for an extended period and later fully closed while PennDOT implemented a detour to remove the vehicle.
Three vehicle crash
BELLEFONTE — A three vehicle crash occurred Oct. 1 on Benner Pike after a 2017 Ford driven by Emily P. Martell, 30, of Bellefonte, failed to notice stopped traffic and struck the rear of 2016 Volkswagen driven by Bailey F. McKean, 19, also of Bellefonte, according to state police at Rockview.
At approximately 1:12 p.m., Martell was traveling south on Benner Pike towards stopped traffic at the Rolling Ridge Dr., police said.
At the time, Martell was allegedly distracted and did not see the stopped traffic before it was too late and hit McKean, police said.
After McKean was struck, the vehicle was then launched forward, striking the back of a 2004 Jeep driven by Janet M. Lyons, 79, of Bellefonte, police said.
Both cars driven by Martell and McKean were towed from the site by Gray’s towing, according to police.
One minor injury was reported by Lyons but she was not transported for medical attention, police said.
Martell was cited for careless driving at the time of the accident, police said.
