Parents jailed after 3-year-old found wandering along Renovo Road three times

Erin Tripp and Steven Sylvia

RENOVO — A couple was arrested April 23 after their three-year-old child was found wandering along Renovo Road, Chapman Township, over the course of 10 days.

According to Renovo Borough Police Gregory Drollinger, Erin Tripp, 33, and Steven Sylvia, 37, both of Renovo, were arrested in relation to endangering the welfare of a child and reckless endangerment.

An investigation into the couple began after the three-year-old was able to get out of an apartment, walk down a long flight of wooden stairs and walk along a busy portion of Renovo Road, police said in their report. Each time, the child had no shoes or clothes on and one instance took place during inclement weather.

“Each time, passing motorists stopped and picked up the child, called 911 and the parents were able to be identified as Tripp and Sylvia,” the report said. “Trip and Sylvia had no idea their child was missing until notified by others that the child was out on the road.”

Despite the prior incidents each time, they continued with no excuse or action taken to correct the issue, police said.

Police noted they believed drug use was a factor.

Tripp, a former Clinton County 911 dispatcher, was charged with a second degree felony count of endangering the welfare of children; two misdemeanor counts of endangering the welfare of children and two misdemeanor counts of recklessly endangering another person, police said.

Sylvia was charged with a second degree felony count of endangering the welfare of children, three misdemeanor counts of endangering the welfare of children and three misdemeanor counts of recklessly endangering another person, police said.

Clinton County Children and Youth Services were also notified.

On April 24, Tripp and Sylvia were arraigned before District Judge Heidi Wright and committed to the Clinton County Correctional Facility in lieu of $5,000 bail.

Starting at $3.69/week.
