PSP looking for rig driver in probe of fatal hit-and-run

WILLIAMSPORT — State police say they are looking for the driver of a truck tractor pulling a Walmart trailer in connection with a fatal hit-and-run early Saturday in Lycoming County.

Surveillance video from near the accident site on Route 220 west of Williamsport showed a dark truck tractor pulling a white Walmart trailer equipped with side skirts about 5:10 a.m., they said Thursday.

The rig was traveling west from Williamsport in the direction of Lamar and State College, they said. Walmart is cooperating in the investigation.

Police did not say if they believe that rig hit Elsie Koch, 80, of the Linden area, while she was walking in the southbound driving lane of Route 220.

The injured woman was found on the highway shortly after 5 a.m. and taken to UPMC Williamsport where she was pronounced dead at 9:30 a.m.

Police previously said it appeared the driver of the vehicle attempted to make an evasive maneuver, to try to miss Koch but did not stop.

No information has been released on why Koch was walking on the highway at that hour of the day.

Anyone with information on the accident is asked to call state police in Montoursville at 570-368-5700.

Starting at $3.69/week.
