Think of something beautiful. Right now, take a moment out of the busy madness of life and picture something you see as beautiful.
Now that we all have a beautiful image in our minds, we are reminded of two things.
First, we are forced to acknowledge that everyone reading this article did not think of the exact same image when asked to think of something beautiful. We each have unique experiences, tastes, perspectives and histories that all come together to form what we think of when we think about something beautiful.
The second truth we are confronted with is that God created every beautiful thing. Every single person thought of something that God has made. There is nothing more uniting than the reality of the God whom we worship and serve.
We can all picture something different, but we are incapable of picturing anything that God Himself did not form from nothing. John chapter one tells us that in the beginning was the Word (Logos in the Greek). The Word was with God and the Word was God. Through Him all things are made -- without Him nothing is made.
Thinking about the world in which we live, we can find a million reasons to be divided from one another. Society can teach you how to divide by every factor and opinion imaginable but there is only one force in all of Creation that can unite us all completely and without exception.
God is the Creator of all things, and we marvel at the beauty of His creation. This marvelous, beautiful creation does not merely exist for us to look upon and feel joy. This beautiful creation cries out constantly that we are standing in the midst of the works of His hands.
We cannot live in apathy of the works of His hands. We cannot continue on in ignorance of His majesty and splendor. We are faced with the awe and wonder of God's designs.
I don't pretend to know what you find beautiful or what you think of when someone asks you to think of something beautiful. I would imagine any answer I would give would not begin to grasp the complexities of why you see beauty where you do. But I do know one thing without question. God made you and God made me, and God placed each of us in our mother's wombs that we might see the Works of His hands and proclaim that He is God, and He is good!
May we find our voices each day are loud and unwavering in our proclamation that we serve the God of all creation, and He is good, worthy of all honor, glory, and praise.
