Soup Sale and Luncheon
HOWARD -- Howard United Methodist Church, 144 W. Main St., Howard, will sponsor a community soup sale on Oct. 20 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Eat in or take out. Dine-in lunch includes soup, rolls, dessert, beverage; cost is $7 for lunch or for a take out quart of soup (vegetable beef, ham and bean, chicken corn, chicken noodle). Pre-orders for quarts of soup should be made by the Sunday prior to luncheon. Contact Patti Long at 814-625-2182. Soup comes in freezable containers.
Proceeds from soup sales are designated to local missions in the area.
Chicken and Biscuit Dinner
JERSEY SHORE -- Oriole United Methodist Church, 39 Main Road, Jersey Shore, will have a Chicken and Biscuit Dinner on Saturday, Oct. 1, from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tickets are sold at the door and take-outs are available. Prices are $6.50 for adults; $4 for children 4-12; and children under age 4 can eat for free.
Sing alongs
MILL HALL -- Bald Eagle United Presbyterian Church, 111 Main St., Mill Hall, holds sing alongs the second and fourth Fridays of each month. Each runs from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the church sancutary and features old favorites. The public is invited. Songbooks are provided with Kay Bossert leading and Pam Blesh playing the piano.
Ladies dinner
MILL HALL -- Bald Eagle United Presbyterian Church, 111 Main St., Mill Hall, will hold its ladies dinner on Nov. 3 at 6 p.m. The dinner is held by the men of the church.
St. Mark holds blessing of pets and animals
SNYDERTOWN -- St. Mark Lutheran Church in Snydertown will hold a Blessing of Pets and Animals service at 6 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 3. The service will be held outdoors at St. Mark's. The service is held around the time the church remembers St. Francis of Assisi, who was known for his love of animals and all of God's creation. All are invited to bring their pets to the outdoor service for a blessing. Those with dogs are asked to have their dogs on a leash.
St. Mark's will be taking a collection for Centre County PAWS during the service.

Yard-n-Bake Sale
HOWARD -- Curtin United Methodist Church, 305 Curtin Village Road, Howard, will hold a fall Yard and Bake Sale on Friday, Oct. 14, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and on Saturday, Oct. 15, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Yummy treats, pies, homemade soups, hot dogs, sloppy joes and yard sale items will be available. Pay it forward
MILL HALL -- Hosted at Cedar Heights Brethren-in-Christ Church in Mill Hall along Route 64, Pay it Forward Exchange/Giveaway has been holding a yearly event for 10 years, giving away kids' clothing, shoes, toys, books, gear and more to area families.
This year's event will be on Oct. 1. To celebrate the 10th birthday of Pay it Forward, a party is planned complete with an inflatable slide, activities, food, and, of course, the clothing and gear giveaway.
Pre-event donations of gently used kids' clothing may be dropped off at Avenue 209, the Lock Haven YMCA or Cedar Heights Brethren in Christ Church (under the carport).

FLEMINGTON -- Flemington First Church of Christ, 714 Canal St., holds Coffee Club every Thursday from 8:30 to 10 a.m.
Youth group
FLEMINGTON -- Flemington First Church of Christ, 714 Canal St., holds its fall Youth Group meetings on Thursdays from 6 to 8 p.m. The group is open to grades kindergarten through fourth and fifth through twelfth.
The meeting starts off each Thursday with a meal, followed by a lesson and game time.
Recycling help
YARNELL -- Yarnell United Methodist Church would like your help in recycling. The church is collecting plastic bags that will be recycled and made into a bench for the church yard.
Through Trex Recycling, the church team needs to collect more than 500 pounds of plastic (that's about 40,500 plastic bags) in a six-month span then Trex will donate a high-performance composite bench to the church. So far the church has collected about 50 pounds of the plastic towards the bench goal.
Plastic bags and film of all sizes will be collected until May, but it must be kept clean and dry.
So, grab a large plastic bag and fill it up with your grocery bags, dry cleaning bags, Ziploc bags of all sizes, bread bags (turn inside out to dump out the bread crumbs), plastic wrap taken from cases of water, toilet paper and paper towels, shrink wrap and bubble wrap. Once your bag is filled it can be dropped off to Donna who lives near the Yarnell UM Church. Call Donna first at 814-880-9450 to make arrangements so that she can collect your bags and place them in a dry area.
Prayer shawl ministry
MILL HALL -- The Prayer Shawl Ministry announces that the 9th Annual Knit-N-Run will be held on Saturday, Oct. 1, at 10 a.m. at the church. This is a partnership between the Prayer Shawl Ministry and the Susquehanna Valley Big Twins Motorcycle Club to distribute the handmade items to area nursing homes and to the Geisinger Neo-Natal Unit in Danville. The public is invited to come to the church at noon on Wednesday, Sept. 28, to see all the items made in the previous year and to socialize with the needleworkers.
The public is also invited to come to the church on Oct. 1 to meet the Big Twins cycle riding members. Please park in the rear of the church.
The Prayer Shawl Ministry meets at Bald Eagle United Presbyterian Church, 111 Main St., Mill Hall. All skill levels of needleworkers are invited to join. All denominations are welcome to come and fellowship. Yarn is funded to the Prayer Shawl Ministry by the Clinton County Community Foundation. Any questions, contact the church at 570-726-4112.
The Prayer Shawl Ministry has recently received a donation of lots of yarn from the family of Betty Schantz. Betty passed away in June. Betty was well-known for taking all those little mismatched skeins of yarn and left over small balls of yard and using them to create beautiful, crocheted things with them for veterans and others in the community. The needleworkers will be honoring Betty by stretching our imaginations to use up all those little balls of yarn to create useful items (like lab robes, afghans and prayer shawls) that are then distributed to those in nursing homes, hospitals and organizations in our area.
There will not be a regular meeting on Oct. 5 due to the Saturday Knit-n-Run so the next Prayer Shawl meeting will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 2 at noon.
