ROTE -- Rote United Methodist Church will celebrate its 140th anniversary on Oct. 23 at 10 a.m. with a special service, followed by a luncheon.

The church would like to share with you some history of the church:

The Evangelical Association of North America purchased the land from Simon and Mary Brungard in Lamar Township for five dollars. The church was built the summer of 1882 and merged with the United Brethren Church in the 1950s. The 40 by 60 foot brick-faced annex was added in October 1964. In June of 1972, the church merged with the United Methodist Church and became the Rote United Methodist Church.

Participating in the worship service will be current pastor, Tom Jones, with Pastor Frank Hartzel providing the morning message.

A catered luncheon will be served after the service. Please contact Jean Slaterbeck at 570-726-3772 for a reservation. Reservations are due by Oct. 2.

Past, present friends and members are asked to join the church and share in its memories at this special service.
