BEECH CREEK -- The Laurel Run United Methodist Church hosted its clothing drive on Saturday, Oct 15.
Pastor Paula Smith was in attendance to run the event with help from Tammy Bechdel and Tasha Leitch.
It officially opened to the public at 8 a.m. and received a "surprising amount of visitors."
"We're aware we're kind of off the beaten path here," said Bechdel. "You don't always know we're out here. When we first started with events at the church a lot of people didn't know we were back here."
The church basement was full of winter essentials ripe for the picking. There was a wide array of sizes and clothing types. The main rack featured coats of all sizes for visitors to browse and take. Tables were also set up with sweaters, sweatshirts, hats and gloves.
The event offered refreshments to those who attended, serving different kinds of cookies, freshly popped popcorn and coffee.
Bechdel said, "We want to share not only the clothing but loving fellowship with our community."
The clothing drive was a new missions project for Laurel Run UMC, and benefited anyone who was in need.
