Egg Hill Church to hold homecoming service Oct. 16

POTTERS MILLS -- In Potter Township, Centre County, near Potters Mills, the Egg Hill Church will hold their annual "Homecoming Service" on Sunday, Oct. 16, at 2 p.m. The public is invited to the fall service conducted by Dwight Freed with the Penns Valley Men's Chorus providing the music. The church has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1979. Interest in the Egg Hill Church is probably second to the Round Barn for history in Potter Township. John Dauberman, a Potter Township and Centre County farmer, was on the township tax records as early as 1801. He and his wife, with a group of local farming neighbors affiliated with the Evangelical Church, decided to build a log church on Egg Hill mountain in 1838, on land that was donated by Dauberman. In 1860, they replaced the church with the current structure. After the church closed in 1927, a Homecoming Service has been an annual event.
