Blessing of Pets
HOWARD -- St. Mark Lutheran Church, 850 Snydertown Road, Howard, will hold a Blessing of Pets and Animals at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3. The service will be held under the church pavilion, and also will include remembering pets we have lost. The church also will be taking donations that will go to Centre County PAWS.
The service is held in early October each year, around the time the church remembers Francis of Assisi, who had a spirit of gratitude for all of creation, including pets and animals.
All are invited to bring their pets or a photo of their pets to the service to receive a blessing. Please have all dogs on leashes.

Book fair
HOWARD -- St. Mark Lutheran Church, 850 Snydertown Road, Howard, will host its annual Free Book Fair and Costless Closet event from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7.
Hundreds of free books, media, puzzles, games, CDs and DVDS will be available to take, along with gently used and clean clothes. Various foods and baked goods also will be available to purchase during the day.
For those attending, you are invited to bring an unexpired food item or monetary donation to help the St. Mark Food Pantry that serves the region.
St. Mark is accepting book and media donations for the event that are in good condition. No encyclopedias.

Homecoming service
LOGANTON -- All are welcome to attend the Annual Homecoming service at the former St. Paul's EUB Church in Sugar Valley on Oct. 1.
Come join church members and guest speaker Pastor Blake Gulley from the Tylersville UCC Church who will share an inspirational message.
The event will have special music provided by the talented local group "Fishers of Men." The offerings received during this Homecoming service are used for the upkeep and maintenance of the beautiful, historic St. Paul's Church and Cemetery.
Worship and fellowship start at 2:30 p.m.
Rummage Sale
LINDEN -- Pine Run Bible Church, 1719 Pine Run Road, Linden, will hold a Rummage Sale today, Sept. 23, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Fall Yard-N-Bake Sale
On Saturday, Sept. 23, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Curtin United Methodist Church will be having their Fall Yard-N-Bake Sale. There will be yummy treats, pies, homemade soups, hotdogs and sloppy joes. All are welcome to stop in to say hello, check out the bargains and grab a bite to eat. Curtin Church is located 3 miles north of Milesburg, 305 Curtin Village Road, Howard. Lasagna Dinner
On Sept. 23 from 4 to 7 p.m. the McElhattan Pathway to Christ will be having a lasagna dinner for dine-in or take out. The suggested price is $15 for lasagna, salad, Italian bread and dessert.
Final sale of the season
Bargains and Blessings Community Closet will hold its final clothing sale of the season on Saturday, Sept. 23, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the fellowship hall of Faith Chapel United Methodist Church. The church is located at 551 Hunter Run Road, Howard, and the sale will be held rain or shine. Enter through the side door off the lower parking lot.
Gently used clothing, shoes and accessories are priced at $5 per bag, cash only, and bags are furnished. Sizes range from infants through 3X for the entire family. Free coffee, water and bagged snacks will be available.
Donations of good quality, gently used clothing items may be dropped off at the Beech Creek Wesleyan Church, the Blanchard Church of Christ or the Howard United Methodist Church. In addition, items may be dropped off at Faith Chapel most Tuesday mornings between 9 a.m. and noon. Call the number below to verify that the Faith Chapel donation site will be open, or you may contact this number to make alternate arrangements for donations.
Bargains and Blessings Community Closet is an outreach mission of Faith Chapel UMC that serves Beech Creek, Blanchard, Howard and surrounding areas. All proceeds go back into the community to help families in need, area schools and other worthwhile charities.

Bible Study
FLEMINGTON -- Flemington First Church of Christ, 714 Canal St., will host Sunday night Bible study beginning Sunday, Sept. 24, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. The study will take place for 11 weeks and will focus on the book of Daniel. Everyone is invited to attend.
Lasanga
JERSEY SHORE -- The Jersey Shore Presbyterian Church is having their annual Lasagna Dinner on Saturday, Oct. 7, from 4:30-6 p.m. Come hungry and pick up a few dinners for the whole family. To pick up your delicious lasagna dinner turn onto Thompson Street to the side entrance of the church, pay and receive a ticket. Proceed to the rear parking lot for pick-up.
Dinners for ages 13 and over are $12; for those ages 6-12 the cost is $5; and children under 5 are free. Meals include the lasagna, bread, a side salad and dessert.
