December Services
LOCK HAVEN -- Great Island Presbyterian Church will celebrate Advent in worship every Sunday at 10 a.m., including Christmas Eve morning, Dec. 24. The church will also have its annual Christmas Eve Candlelight Service at 7:30 p.m. On Tuesday, Dec. 19, members will have a "Blue Christmas" service which is “a survival guide for the holiday season. A contemplative service with gentle reminders to self-care, setting sensible boundaries and expectations.”
Community Christmas Party
LAMAR -- All are invited to join the fun at The Community Christmas Party and Coffeehouse that will be Tuesday, Dec. 12 from 6-8 p.m. at the Porter Township Community Building, 216 Spring Run Road, Lamar, the former Porter Township Elementary School. The party will feature music by the Bradford Family, along with lots of special music, games with prizes and lots of refreshments.
Grief Support Group
MACKEYVILLE -- The Grief Support Group will meet Wednesday, Dec. 13 at 7 p.m. at the Mackeyville United Methodist Church. Christmas can be especially hard for many who are living with the loss of a loved one, the support and love of others who are experiencing the same thing can bring some comfort.
Worship in the Woods
LOCK HAVEN -- Members invite everyone to join a Christmas Worship in the Woods at Big Woods Bible Church, 241 S. Hanna St., Lock Haven, that will be running every Friday and Saturday night in December starting at 6 p.m. every 30 minutes until 9 p.m. This outdoor display of lights has over 8,000 LED lights that are synchronized to music.
Volunteers will help park you and bring you hot chocolate and cookies. You will stay right in your car and will be given instruction on how to tune in so that you can listen and enjoy the music depicting the true meaning of Christmas, the birth of Jesus Christ.
If you’d like to know more about Jesus and his gift to each one of us, members invite you to join them on Dec. 24 at 6 p.m. for a Christmas Eve Service at 241 S. Hanna St., Lock Haven.
Santa Visit
HOWARD -- Take a picture with Santa for Free on Saturday, Dec. 9, from 10 a.m. to noon at Howard United Methodist Church, 144 W. Main St, Howard. Santa is coming back again this year to the church fellowship hall, so tell all the parents of little kids you know. Instead of going to the mall, waiting in line, and paying $20-$30 for a picture, bring your own camera or smartphone and get a picture with Santa for free! There will be refreshments and each child will receive a small gift from Santa. Leave a message at 814-625-2362 if there are any questions.
Christmas Bazaar
JERSEY SHORE -- St. John Lutheran Church, 229 S. Broad St., Jersey Shore, will have its annual Christmas Bazaar on Saturday, Dec. 9, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be a Cookie Table, Christmas crafts, holiday arrangements and a gently-used Gift Table. Lunch platters are available for $6.. Come see Santa Claus.
Winter Chocolate Festival
AVIS -- The Grace Fellowship Church is hosting their third annual Winter Chocolate Festival on Dec. 9 from 1-5 p.m. Whether you love chocolate or don't (they don't judge!), there's something for everyone. There will be hot chocolate with all the fixings, kids crafts, chocolate fountains with many options to dip in, outdoor fire pits for s'mores, Santa’s workshop, photos and vendors! GloryWay in Concert
BEECH CREEK -- Beech Creek Wesleyan Church would like to extend an invitation to see GloryWay in concert. The church will be hosting GloryWay on Saturday, Dec. 9, with the concert of Christmas music beginning at 6 p.m. You don’t want to miss this opportunity to share in a great evening of great music honoring the Birth of Christ the Lord. Holiday Worship
McELHATTAN -- The McElhattan Pathway to Christ Church, 502 McElhattan Drive, McElhattan, invites you to join members on Dec. 10 at 10 a.m. for our Holiday Worship Service. Come out and start your Christmas holiday with the congregation and stay for a potluck luncheon following the service.
2nd Monday Dinner
RENOVO -- Renovo First United Methodist Church will be having a drive-up soup sale on Monday, Dec. 11, from 4 to 6 p.m. Vegetable Beef Soup or Chicken Noodle Soup will be available for $7 a quart. Zoom Bible Study
LOCK HAVEN -- Patrick Ferris, minister at the Walnut St. Church of Christ, will host a Zoom Bible Study every other Wednesday evening from 6:30-7:15. The goal is to go through the entire Bible in a way that makes each of us think. Everyone is invited and there is no obligation to attend. The next study session will be on Dec. 13. Food Bank distribution
MILL HALL -- On Wednesday, Dec. 13, the St. Paul's Food Bank will have its regular distribution at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 6220 Nittany Valley Drive, Mill Hall. The distribution runs from 9-11 a.m. Food bank volunteers ask those who participate in the distribution to bring their boxes back so they may be used again. For questions please call 570-726-7460.
