How deep is your love?

"How deep is your love?

How deep is your love?

How deep is your love?

I really mean to learn"

Even though these lines are from an iconic song of the Bee Gees, it reminds me of when Jesus said to Peter, "Peter, do you love me?"

Many have asked the question, "Why would an omniscient God say that to Peter?"

Was it because Jesus wanted Peter to vocally express his devotion? Perhaps it was to give Peter the focus of the love he had for Jesus; thus, feed my sheep. It also could be that after he denied knowing Jesus three times before the crucifixion, Peter needed to void that denial with three statements of total commitment.

Peter confirmed his love with the ultimate sacrifice. (John 15:13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.)

Where do we stand in our love for the Savior? Is it one of convenience or a Sunday-only kind of love? Would we, like Peter, die for Him? Would we sacrifice all and follow Jesus wherever He leads?

Matthew 16:24-26: Verse 24 Then Jesus told his disciples, "If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. 25 For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. 26 For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul?"

In these timorous days, we all need to know how deep is your love for Jesus. Are we willing to take up our cross and follow Him?

Our world needs to see Jesus in our lives, they need to see His love in us. When we lay down our goals, our desires and our way of doing things, and follow Jesus then others will see -- "How deep is our Love."
