Covenant to hold picnic,
host music
LOCK HAVEN -- The Lockport Drifters will again provide special music in worship Sunday at Covenant United Methodist Church, 44-46 W. Main St. Lock Haven. The prelude will begin around 8:35 a.m. The church picnic also will be held this Sunday, at 12 p.m. in Riverview Park Pavilion #1.
Blessing of the Backpacks
WOOLRICH -- Woolrich/Caldwell Charge of UMC will have a Blessing of the Backpacks Service in Woolrich Park on Sunday, Aug. 25, at 9:45 a.m. at Pavilion #2.
All students, teachers and classroom or food service support staff are encouraged to attend to have special prayer and a blessing to prepare for a great year in the classroom. A pot luck meal will follow the service.
Bring a chair or blanket to sit on during the service.
Special music
McELHATTAN -- Fishers of Men will be singing at the McElhattan Pathway to Christ Church on Sunday, Aug. 25, at 10 a.m. All are invited to come and hear the gospel music.
The church is located at 502 McElhattan Drive in McElhattan.
Lamar Lighthouse concerts
LAMAR -- Lamar Lighthouse Camp will be having concerts each Sunday evening at 7 p.m. in the campground's multi-purpose room. The public is invited to each of the free Sunday evening concerts. A love offering is taken during the evening. Indoor seating is provided for the concerts, or bring your lawn chairs for more comfortable seating.
New Journey will be taking the stage on Aug. 25. Randy and Marli Ministries will be performing on Sept. 1, followed by Texas Star on Sept. 8. The last concert of the summer will feature Glory Way on Sept. 15.
Lamar Lighthouse Camp is located along Route 64, 2 miles south of I-80 exit 173.
Grief Support
LOCK HAVEN -- Community Grief Support is a new opportunity for men and women to gather and seek help together. The next meeting will be on Aug. 27. The group will meet the second and fourth Tuesday of the month from 6-7 p.m. in the lounge of Covenant United Methodist Church, 44-46 W. Main St., Lock Haven.
The support group is free, confidential and open to anyone. There is no work book to follow and no end date. It is designed to become an established, long-term program.
Sharon Gensib and Pamela Brauchli are the facilitators. They will open each session but the discussion will go where the group takes it.
St. Luke's Blood Drive
FLEMINGTON -- St. Luke's United Church of Christ, 1175 W. 4th St., Flemington, will host a blood drive on Tuesday, Aug. 27, from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. St. Luke's special root beer floats will be served at this drive. Call 1-800-Red-Cross or visit RedCrossBlood.org to schedule your appointment.
Youth Group
FLEMINGTON -- Flemington First Church of Christ youth group will have their welcome back night on Thursday, Aug. 29, from 6-8 p.m., for grades 6-12. There will be nachos, snow cones, a Gaga ball and more!
Missionaries
FLEMINGTON -- Hillview Wesleyan Church will host two missionaries in September.
Dorcas Croft, missionary to Eswatini, formerly known as Swaziland, in South Africa, will be at the church on Hillview Wesleyan on Sept. 1 at 10:30 a.m.
Robin and Yoko White, missionaries to Japan, will visit on Sept. 8 at 10:30 a.m. The public is invited to attend the services and hear the missionaries speak.
Free movies
MILL HALL -- Living Faith Ministries will once again hold their Friday Night Movies. All movies are free and open to the community. We are located at 7175 Nittany Valley Drive in Mill Hall. Look for the big green sign in front of the church. There will be free food while supplies last. Bring you lawn chairs, blankets, family and enjoy a FREE night out!
Summer Outdoor Concert winds down
HOWARD -- St. Mark Lutheran Church's Summer Outdoor Concerts will be wrapping up with the conclusion on Aug. 30, when the bluegrass group, the Parlor Pickers, comes to Snydertown.
The public is invited to come and relax with family and friends, beginning at 6 p.m., when the fire pit will be ready to roast hot dogs, Smores and more, with the music starting at 6:30 p.m. under the pavilion at St. Mark's, 850 Snydertown Road, Howard.
Bring a lawn chair or blanket and enjoy some great music and time with the community!

Country style dinner
WILLIAMSPORT -- The Parishioners of Immaculate Conception Parish invite you to its annual country style ham and turkey dinner on Monday, Sept. 2, from noon to 6 p.m., at the parish center, 5973 Jacks Hollow Road, Williamsport.
The meal will consist of ham and turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, corn, noodles, coleslaw, bread and dessert. The cost is $13 per meal for adults and $6 for children ages 4-12. Children under 4 are free. Takeout meals at $13 each are available after 1 p.m.
In addition to the dinner, sandwiches, French fries, funnel cakes, pies and ice cream are available on the grounds, as well as small games of chance and Bingo. The church will also have a variety of homemade jams and jellies, fudge and candy for sale in the Summer Kitchen.
Scrap-ghan month
MILL HALL -- Bald Eagle United Presbyterian Church's Prayer Shawl Ministry (PSM) will meet at the church at noon on Wednesday, Sept. 4, for lunch and to view the creative items that are brought in each month.
During the months of July and August, the needleworkers (those men and women who crochet, knit or sew) have been using up their scraps of yarn to make projects.
Needleworkers are a critical part of the Prayer Shawl Ministry's outreach in providing hand-made items that are given to nursing home and personal care home residents and those in hospitals or the Infant Development program, etc.
Yarn is provided by the church for the needleworkers to use, courtesy of local donations of both yarn and money that is used to buy new skeins of yarn for the PSM.
New needleworkers are invited to put your creative talents of crocheting, knitting or sewing to good use with the Prayer Shawl Ministry each month. All skill levels are invited to attend.
Prayer Shawl Ministry's Pastor Susan Champion invites the community to come to the Sept. 4 meeting to see all the wonderful projects that the needleworkers have created. PSM begins at noon with a light lunch provided. The church is handicap accessible with lots of free parking to the rear. For questions, call 570-726-4112 and leave a message.

Food Distribution
HOWARD -- Howard United Methodist Church will have a food distribution on Thursday, Sept. 5, beginning at 5 p.m. This is the only distribution during the month of September. Those needing food aid can line up at 4 p.m., but not before, being careful to not block drive ways.

Yard Sale
SALLADASBURG -- Salladasburg Church, on Main St., in Salladasburg, will host an indoor yard sale on Saturday, Sept. 7, from 8 a.m.- noon. The sale will include household items, clothing, furniture, books, toys, tools and CDs/DVDs. Proceeds will benefit local missions.

Pot Pie Sale
WINGATE -- Wingate Faith Church will have a pot pie sale on Monday, Sept. 9, beginning at 4 p.m. Pre-orders for quarts of ham or chicken pot pie (with homemade bread) can be phoned in to Janette at 814-883-0893 anytime. The pot pie can then be picked up at the church. Walk-ins are also welcome, while supplies last. Quarts of pot pie come in freezable containers and are $8 each. Wingate Faith Church is located at 111 Runville Road, Bellefonte (right behind the Sheetz store in Wingate).
Fellowship Corner Room
MILL HALL -- New Hope Fellowship has added a Fellowship Corner Room to its church at 6436 Nittany Valley Drive, Mill Hall. The Fellowship Corner Room is available for your parties, receptions, showers and other small gathering events. The room will seat 60-70 comfortably and offers tables, cushioned chairs, stoves, microwaves, a refrigerator and plenty of counter space and outside parking. FLEMINGTON -- The 4th Annual Kerry Clausen Basket Raffle and Car Show will be Sunday, Sept. 15, from 11 a.m.-3 p.m., at Flemington First Church of Christ.
Free Movie
FLEMINGTON -- Join the Hillview Wesleyan Church for a free movie that will be shown on Sept. 21 at 6 p.m. in the church fellowship hall. The movie will be The Chronicles of Narnia - The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

Benefit Lunch
McELHATTAN -- McElhattan Pathway to Christ Church is holding a benefit lunch on Saturday, Sept. 21, to raise funds for the family of Keith "Wink" Winkleman. Keith, 53, was killed in an accident while driving a logging truck on July 2. The drive-thru lunch will begin at 11 a.m. and features a platter holding a hot sausage sandwich, macaroni salad, chips and a cookie. You get to provide a donation (suggested $10) for the meal to benefit his family. Come early to get your lunch while supplies last! A Celebration of Keith's Life is being planned for October.
