Bargains and Blessings
HUNTER RUN -- Bargains and Blessings Community Closet will hold its final clothing sale of the season on Saturday, Oct. 19, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., in the fellowship hall of Faith Chapel United Methodist Church. The church is located at 551 Hunter Run Road, Howard, and the sale will be held rain or shine. Enter through the side door off the lower parking lot.
Gently used clothing, shoes and accessories are priced at $5 per bag, cash only, and bags are furnished. Sizes range from infants through 3X for the entire family. Free coffee, water and bagged snacks will also be available.
Books and More
SNYDERTOWN -- St. Mark Lutheran Church, Snydertown Road, rural Howard, is having a free book fair and costless clothing closet on Saturday, Oct. 19, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Lots of books, puzzles, games, CDs and DVDs will be given away along with new and gently used clothing.
Food and baked goods will be available for sale. Those attending are asked to bring a non-perishable food item(s) or give a monetary donation to the church's food pantry to help feed the hungry in the area. Call 814-383-4882 for more info.
'Unsung Hero'
FLEMINGTON -- Hillview Wesleyan will be showing the movie "Unsung Hero" on Oct. 19 at 6 p.m. at the church. This is the story of Christian singer Rebecca St. James. She is the sister of the Christian singing group, For King & Country.
Turkey dinner
AVIS -- The Avis United Methodist Church will be hosting a turkey dinner at 215 Prospect Ave, Avis, on Oct. 19 from 4-6 p.m.
Trombone Concert
HOWARD -- The Penn State Trombones will visit Howard United Methodist Church to present a concert on Sunday, Oct. 20. The public is invited and encouraged to drop a few dollars in their case to help with their expenses. The morning service begins at 9 a.m. All are welcome!
Grief Support
LOCK HAVEN -- Community Grief Support is a new opportunity for men and women to gather and seek help together. The next meeting will be on Oct. 22. The group will meet the second and fourth Tuesday of the month from 6-7 p.m. in the lounge of Covenant United Methodist Church, 44-46 W. Main St., Lock Haven.
The support group is free, confidential and open to anyone. There is no work book to follow and no end date. It is designed to become an established, long-term program.
Sharon Gensib and Pamela Brauchli are the facilitators. They will open each session but the discussion will go where the group takes it.
Fall Festival
LOCK HAVEN -- Big Woods Bible Church will hold a Fall Festival on Saturday, Oct. 26, from noon to 3 p.m. at the church located at 241 S. Hanna St., Lock Haven. There will be food, inflatables, games and more to enjoy, along with a Truck or Treat for the children!

OCC Speaker
STATE COLLEGE -- The Operation Christmas Child fall speaker tour is in our area. Come hear the story of Dioany Yosuino from Venezuela, a young lady who received a simple shoebox as a girl living in the Venezuelan Amazon. Learn how receiving this simple shoebox impacted her life. Admittance is free to all on Saturday, Oct. 26, at 1 p.m., at The Park Forest Baptist Church, 3030 Carnegie Drive, State College. Italian Dinner
YARNELL -- Yarnell Church is having an Italian Dinner on Saturday, Oct. 26, from 4-6 p.m., at the Yarnell Community Center. The meal will include spaghetti Alfredo, garlic bread, salad and dessert for a donation of your choice (suggested $10 or more). Trunk or Treat
MILL HALL -- New Hope Fellowship Church will have a Trunk or Treat on Oct. 31 from 6-8 p.m.
In addition to candy and treats there will also be hot chocolate and the first 50 children will receive a free meal coupon to the Texas Roadhouse. The church is located along Route 64 at 6436 Nittany Valley Drive, Mill Hall.
Breaker Anointing
McELHATTAN -- Kingdom of Life Ministries, 129 Park Ave., Lock Haven, will host a Breaker Anointing event with Stephen Powell on Oct. 30 and 31 at 7 p.m.
Prayer meeting
LOCK HAVEN -- A Prayer Meeting will be held on Sunday, Nov. 3, at Triangle Park. Participants will be praying for the upcoming General Election.
Holly Mart Bazaar
LOCK HAVEN -- The Holy Spirit Parish Holly Mart Bazaar will be held on Saturday, Nov. 9, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and on Sunday, Nov. 10, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the spacious handicapped accessible Lock Haven Catholic School gym. Attractions include theme baskets, a silent auction, new to you booth, crafts for kids, baked goods and delicious foods, along with homemade soups to eat in or take out and much more. Santa will be making an appearance on Sunday during the Holly Mart Bazaar. Fun for all, come support this endeavor!

Thanksgiving Dinner
SALLADASBURG -- Salladasburg UMC will be hosting a Community Thanksgiving Dinner on Saturday, Nov. 9. Take outs are available from 2-4 p.m. and those able to dine-in can come from 4-6 p.m. The church is located at 310 Main St., Salladasburg. Proceeds from the meal will benefit local charities.
Pot Pie Sale
WINGATE -- Wingate Faith Church is holding a ham and chicken pot pie sale on Monday, Nov. 11, at 4 p.m. Place your pre-orders by calling Janette at 814-883-0893. Pickup of the orders and walk-in sales begin at 4 p.m. at the church. The cost for quarts of pot pie in freezable containers with homemade bread is $9. This will be the last pot pie sale this fall, so stock up! The church is located at 111 Runville Road, Bellefonte, behind the Sheetz Store in Wingate.
Fall Fair
FLEMINGTON -- St. Luke’s United Church of Christ in Flemington will be holding a Fall Fair on Saturday, Nov. 16, from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. The fair will feature a huge indoor yard sale, bake sale, raffle table, homemade fudge, homemade soups and sandwiches and delicious homemade pies and desserts. Lunch will be available for eat in or take out. There will be Rada Cutlery, Baskets by BJ, Aungst’s Smoked Cheese, Scentsy and other craft vendors and more!
Crafting group open to all
LOCK HAVEN -- A new crafting group is open to everyone who wants to share in the fun and maybe gain a new skill. Covenant Crafters meets Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. in Covenant United Methodist Church, 44 W. Main St., and is open to the general public.
Projects will vary.
