Christmas time is coming. It will be here before we know it and as we enter this time of year, we find ourselves surrounded by bright lights and bright colors everywhere.
These Christmas colors catch our eye each evening as we drive down the street and, if you are like me, then perhaps you find a great amount of joy in the lights and decorations, but it does have me reflecting on a significant truth found in Scripture.
We fix our eyes on something, and it begins to be included in the thoughts that are running through our minds, and given enough time most things become part of our desires and our plans.
Let each of us examine the coming Christmas season, the holiday lights and the sights and sounds that will soon surround us everywhere we go for the next month. As we walk through the winter wonderlands, the gingerbread house themes and the colorful lights and swirls and wonders of technology that this season will surely bring into our lives, be mindful of all that we focus upon this year.
In our awareness and mindfulness let each of us take time each day to read these words from Colossians chapter three where the Word of God says this, "So if you have been raised with Christ, seek the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. 3 For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God."
These powerful Words of Scripture are clear to us here today. We are meant to focus on the things of God's Kingdom and having a daily reading and a daily reminder of this heavenly designed refocusing can change the very path of our lives.
Perhaps as we read these words of Scripture each day, we will find a continuous feeling of contentment when we may have felt the pains of want that so often plague humanity at this time of year.
We will find that we are not so absorbed in commercials and advertisements that constantly pull us in to buy more of what we do not need. We will find with a daily reading of these words from Colossians three that we are not consumers in this world but are in fact builders and workers for the Kingdom of God and for Heavenly things, glorious and beautiful beyond any Christmas decoration or any colorful light.
The glory of Heaven and the Kingdom of God is the most beautiful thing we will put our eyes upon this year.
