Local UM churches move forward by turning back

Flemington, MH, Lamar host casual services once a month

FLEMINGTON — Prior to the pandemic, three local United Methodist Churches had decided to try something different. They began having one Sunday a month to be a more casual service held in their respective social gathering rooms. The plan was to have refreshments around tables in a far more informal service. That was within a month of the world standing still. Only one informal service was ever held.

At a recent joint committee meeting of the Flemington, Lamar and Mill Hall Charge of the United Methodist Church, the thought was raised again. And so, on Sunday, Sept. 14, each of the churches will once again hold a second Sunday casual service. It is officially called “Casual Sunday.”

It is a come-as-you-are, have a cup of coffee or tea, have a baked good or snack, sing a couple songs and enjoy a less formal morning service. There will still be singing, prayer, and praise and on the first Casual Sunday each church will share the bread and the cup.

Church members look forward to having you join them. The services will be at the regular service hours for each church: Mill Hall at 8:45 a.m., Lamar at 9:50 a.m. and Flemington at 11 a.m.
