Prayer Shawl Ministry
MILL HALL — The Prayer Shawl Ministry needleworkers met at the Bald Eagle United Presbyterian Church in Mill Hall on Jan. 7. There were 26 needleworkers present, each bringing many items to restock the supply of afghans, prayer shawls, lap robes, twin bed-sized quilts, baby sweater sets, hats, scarves and mittens. The items are given free of charge to many organizations in the area.
Our winter hat project will soon see children at Centre Hall Elementary and Robb Elementary wearing new hats. Allison will be checking with the kindergarten and first grade teachers to arrange a convenient time for the hats to be delivered to the children at the schools.
Pat once again provided a scrumptious (free) lunch — hotdogs with pork and sauerkraut, mashed potatoes, cherry cheese cake and brownies.
The Prayer Shawl Ministry is not classified as a non-profit organization so we are not eligible to receive grants, so the PSM relies on donations of money or new or used yarn. Donations are always accepted and can be brought to the church during the PSM meetings or by making arrangements with Pastor Susan.
Donations of cotton material (like the fat quarters that are sold at Walmart) are also needed to continue to make the quilts for Sleep in Heavenly Peace, an organization that provides free beds to children who don’t have their own bed to sleep in. The material should be of bright colors to brighten bedrooms and bring joy to the faces of the younger children and teenagers who receive the quilts.
If you crochet or knit and would like to become involved with the PSM, we’d love to have you join us.
For more info on the Prayer Shawl Ministry, call the church office at 570-726-4112 and leave a message if Pastor Susan isn’t there to take your call.
