Prayer Shawl Ministry

MILL HALL — The Prayer Shawl Ministry needleworkers gathered on April 1, at noon, at the Bald Eagle United Presbyterian Church, 111 Main St., Mill Hall, for their monthly meeting. A light lunch was provided for those who attended.

Needleworkers are given yarn each month to take home and create projects that are then given to more than 25 organizations in the area. The needleworkers vary in different skill levels and there is always an abundance of beautiful items (hats, scarves, prayer shawls, lap robes and afghans) that are brought in each month. If you are wanting to learn to crochet or knit, come out to the next meeting and some of our skilled crafters will help you.

In addition to making lap robes, prayer shawls and afghans, the needleworkers are now busy making hats and wash clothes for Operation Christmas Child shoe boxes. The Prayer Shawl Ministry was asked to provide 600 hats and wash cloths that will be placed in the shoe boxes that will be shipped overseas at Christmastime. The wash clothes require cotton yarn so they don’t shrink when they get wet, so if anyone would like to donate cotton yarn (or funds to help us buy it) for this purpose we will surely use it!

A beautiful selection of cotton fabric (material of all sizes and patterns) was brought and given to Rhoda, one of our needleworkers who sews and makes beautiful twin-sized bed quilts for the Lock Haven branch of Sleep in Heavenly Peace. Rhoda made two knotted quilts that were taken to the April Prayer Shawl Ministry meeting where they will be then passed along to Laura Orndorf, the director of the local SIHP organization.

The next Prayer Shawl Ministry meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 6, beginning at noon.

Call Pastor Susan at the church office for more info at 570-726-4112 or plan to come to the meeting and have lunch with us!

In recognition of this historic milestone, the Clinton County Ministerium invites the community to gather for a special time of reflection and rededication at Triangle Park on Sunday, May 17, from 1-4 p.m.

This gathering will include prayer, reflection and community participation, along with a special recognition of students who have expressed their understanding of “One Nation Under God” through art. It is our hope that this event will inspire both young and old to consider what it truly means to live as a people under God’s guidance.
