The Central Mountain Boys Tennis team has had a great season so far. As of April 22 the boys varsity team has an official 8-1 record with four sweep 5-0 matches, three 4-1 wins, and one 3-2 victory against Altoona.
The team has shown a lot of growth this season and has many strong players that create such an effective team. The singles players have done very well with David Lindsay having an undefeated season and Asher Talbot and Ethan Hall only having a handful of losses between them.
Doubles teams Leisher Gugino/Lucas Porter and Jackson Walker/Nate Brinker have also proven to be very successful and a reliable source of points for the team.
It is also clear that this team is having a lot of fun while pulling off this successful season.
Senior Ethan Hall says he enjoys being on the team because, "It's a lot of fun, it keeps me active, and I have a lot of friends."
And sophomore Nicholas Piergallini says he likes being on the team, "Because of Ethan Hall."
Ethan said his favorite part of practice is, "Hitting around with Nicky Peragdiliani."
Nick said his favorite part is, "when I'm warming up with Ethan Hall."
Because the environment is not very serious it allows the team to relax and have lots of fun, especially on the bus for away games.
Sophomore David Lindsey plays number one singles for the team and went to the state competition for the team last year. He lost in a close match to the player that would go on to be first in the state. The player that won last year graduated so I asked David if he thought he had a good chance of winning states this year.
He said, "it's hard to say because it's all about matchups and certain kids do well against other players. For example, the kid I lost to, he played next round and didn't really have the right game to play against the kid that won his name was Colin Gramely, was the one that lost to Vick Miller is the one who won. So Vick had a very big game like hitting through kids while I was more staying back at the baseline trying to keep in the rally with him trying to keep up so it was easier for me to do well than him and the kid that Colin Gramely beat his name is Alex he is similar to me in the sense that he can stay back and rally for a while and so he could've countered that game quite well. Another kid David M. is very similar to that he was the finalist and probably could have very easily beaten Vick but they know each other well, so they each knew what to do against each other so it's harder."
